Hidden Secrets

Chapter 23

We have been driving for a few hours when I had this sudden to just stop and run in a direction. "Stop the car Chase, we're here." He pulled the car over to the side of the road, we were in the middle of nowhere. On one side of the road, there were trees for miles and on the other, there was nothing at all but an open field. Now my logic is telling me, if you wanted to hide anything it would be in the woods, so that would be the place to search. But my gut was telling me to rather go the other way, so I just followed my gut feeling. " I'm taking the car to hide it in the woods on the other side, we don't want to draw any unwanted attention to us before we can find an entrance to wherever we are going." Chase said close to my ear before he gave me quick kiss. I got out of the car and knelt down so I wouldn't be too obvious as I waited for the others to join me once again.

The 7 of us were quite the group, as we stalked further into the fields. There was really hardly anything there but with the grass being about hip height, you could hide just about anything inside it. So I knew this would take forever if we had to do it this way. I stopped and motioned for the others to come closer. "I'm going to try and get a feel for the ground to see where there has been a disturbance or something along those lines. If we keep searching like this it will take forever and we don't have much time." I closed my eyes and concentrated on on the field, trying to figure out how they could hide here without us seeing anything. It has to be underground though, so that's where I concentrated. I could feel the earth through every nerve in my body. And then i felt it, like hitting a wall of sorts. I kept my eyes closed as I began to move towards it, when I felt Chase take my hand, making sure I don't trip over anything.

When we stopped at the edge of the field, I crouched down to investigate. As i moved the grass away, it just slid something into place and then the ground beneath us trembled. And within seconds we were falling into blackness. I think they were expecting us.

I was able to slow our fall down and minimize the impact, though it felt like forever when we finally touched the ground. It was dark and the smell emanating from wherever was disgusting. I had to hold my nose, for once I didn't appreciate my heightened senses at all. I checked that everyone was okay before we moved towards the slightest sounds coming from the end of the tunnel we were in. As we came to the end of the tunnel I couldn't help but feel like this is some kind of parallel universe. There sat my mother having tea with two fierce looking woman, like this was some kind of party. I just stoop there with my mouth agape, not knowing what to do. As she glanced up, she made a motion with her hands as if to shoo us away and the look she gave me was telling me to listen. We stepped back and I had to close my eyes before I did something stupid.

A few minutes later, she came striding towards us and motioned for us to follow her, like we were her guests and not here to save her. Only then did I notice a strange aura cloaking her soul, like it was sucking whatever was left out of her. She looked so calm though, that I had no idea what to do but stare. Everyone followed her silently until we were in her room, which was quite barren and had nothing apart from a bed and two chairs. She turned around and it seemed like she wanted to come and hug the life out of me, but that was only what her eyes were telling me. She didn't say a word as she looked at each of us. So I spoke without really thinking about anything, we didn't have time and we needed to take her and leave. " How do I get the spell off of you mother?" Chase looked at me funny, asking for an explanation. " Something is sucking the life out of her. It seems to me that if she disobeyed or turned on them in some way, it would become worse hence why she was having tea with them and walking around freely. They know if she even thought about doing something, it would kill her quicker. I have to remove it somehow in order for us to get her out of here."

The nymphs stood back, not wanting to cause more damage than good. We have no idea what might happen if I attempt to get it off of her. I closed my eyes and went deep into myself for an answer. When I found the power I was looking for, my eyes opened and mother stood shocked at the violet color shining through my eyes. " I'm stronger than they know mother. I'm here to get you out and kill those who dared to stand against my family. Now, you guys need to leave the room so I can do this. As soon as I touch her, trouble will be coming and you need to keep them occupied while I'm busy. Chase, I need you to be ready to give me blood, when I step out of the door. I won't have enough strength to get us out when I'm done here."

Chase gave me a quick kiss and whispered in my ear how much he loved me before stepping outside the room with our companions. I looked at my mother and gave her a soft smile. " I can't believe I found you mom. I know this is too easy and the hard part is still coming. But first, lets get you back to Dad shall we?" She gave me a quick nod before stepping closer to me. I placed my one hand on her shoulder and the other over her heart where the darkness has anchored itself. As my soul battled the darkness for her life, I could see what they had done to her down here. It's only recently that they have let her wonder around without punishment. I felt the tears rushing down my cheeks as I felt her pain and humiliation. Syngen truly was an evil creature, only getting joy from breaking others into tiny pieces. For her to be standing here and still looking as proud and strong as I imagine she once was, must really be hard for her. I could feel the darkness losing it's hold on her and I saw her cracking too, it must have been keeping her emotions at bay as well. That's why she has been so calm after seeing me. She broke down and fell to her knees and I followed, never letting my hands leave her. The sounds coming from her nearly broke my heart, she was broken. This woman who has never done anything to harm another, she didn't deserve this and I will get my revenge on Syngen for what he has done.

Once the leech was completely gone, I took her in my arms and helped her to sit down. "Chase baby, I need help. Bring Damon." Only seconds later, they both rushed into the room, weapons ready until they noticed there was no danger. " Damon, can you carry my mother please, she won't be able to move herself for quite some time." I heard a sob and realized it was coming from me. Chase held me and tucked my head into the crook of his neck, urging me to drink. I only took what I needed as my tears continued to stream down my face. " I'm sorry you had to see that love, but she will be okay now. We just need to get out of here and take her to your father." Nodding silently, I took his hand and kissed it softly as we proceeded out of the room. As we came around the corner I watched as the nymphs took down the last of the guards who were left to keep an eye on my mother. Syngen must have noticed our arrival and escaped. He will be going directly to the heart of the fight to cause as much damage as possible. We came to the end of the tunnel, looking up to the entrance far above our heads. Damon let loose his black wings and took to the sky with my mother in his arms. I looked at the others as they each found a way out, Chase turned to me silently asking if I needed help. I just shook my head and told him to go up, I needed a moment for myself, just to clear my head first.

Looking up at the blue sky, I closed my eyes and thought about my father's reaction when he sees my mother after all these years. He'll be able to help her get back to her former strength. As I looked up, I noticed Chase looking down into the darkness, waiting for me to come back up. I wish I had wings too, it would've been so awesome. But instead I get to fly, kind of, using my air ability. As my head popped out of the opening, he grabbed me into a huge hug. " I have to take my mother to dad. I'm not sure if I can take you all with me. But I think it would be better if I went alone and met up with you guys at the estate. We can regroup there and head out to the battle." Chase wasn't happy with this decision and said he's coming whether I like it or not, he will just use his own way and follow me there. I sat down on the grass as Damon placed my mother close to me, laying her head across my lap. " We'll see you there Scarlett. Stay safe." With that, he walked away hand in hand with Edana of all people. She was smiling shyly up at him as her sisters teased her.

Looking down at my mother, asleep on my lap I repeated the words my father told me to say and I felt us moving at a fast pace just as we sat there. Suddenly we were staring straight at a 3 headed dog that was so big it looked like a dinosaur. It growled menacingly at me, being a stranger and all. " Stop your growling and call my father you idiot." I chastised the dog without a blink of an eye. I had worse things to stress about than his bloody guard duty. Within seconds my father was kneeling by my side as Chase appeared out of nowhere too. Dad took my mother in his arms, tear were streaming down his face. He looked into my eyes as he spoke. " Kill that bastard for me would you. He got more people on his side than I anticipated. Take Cerberus with you, it's his snack time after all. And he loves the taste of demon blood." With that, he disappeared into thin air. Not even getting a moment to look around, Chase took a hold of me around my hips and placed my on the big dog's back. Holding onto his chain, he wrapped his other arm around my waist so I wouldn't fall. " Come on Cerberus, let's go kill us some Demons boy." Cerberus barked once loudly and just like that we were on the estate, bounding towards the battlefield. Here we go..
