Chapter 24

I could see the damage to our forces as soon as we drew nearer. It was a sight I hope to never see again after today. Blood coated every inch of the earth and the men and woman fighting on it. I couldn't just watch, I had to do something. " Chase, I need you to let me go now. Please baby. I'll be good, promise. I'll keep Cerberus close to me. get the others at the estate, they must be worried by now and then come and join us." Without another word, I nudged him off of the dog's back as I crouched down, holding on as he rushed through the crowds like a bulldozer. Leaving them stunned when they noticed what had shoved them to the side. I just called out an apology to those on our side. Patting him on his neck, he slowed down as we came to a clearing that had a powerful battle going on. I noticed the nymphs lying on the floor, drained from their blood. The demons must have done this to get more power. They sight made me gag slightly, No Scar, you can't break at this sight now. Use it to fuel your anger. My pep talk did wonders, for a few moments later I was leaping through the air and into the center of the chaos, wearing full battle gear sending arrows flying this way and that, killing vampires and rogue wolves within seconds. I'm not sure how long I had been fighting, but I was covered in blood from so many species, I couldn't detect the difference anymore.

Stranger still, was the fact that I didn't even feel tired. Cerberus was still playing tag with a few demons, he actually seemed happy with his tail wagging about and snarling at them. It was actually quite funny to watch, because they knew they were about to die, but the look of confusion on their faces was hilarious as they weren't sure if he was joking or serious.

"Love, you need to come this way, we have a problem" I heard Chase in my head, calling to Cerberus, he chomped off the heads of the last few demons and rushed over to me. I grabbed onto his chain around his neck and jumped onto his back as he charged towards the area where Chase was. As we got closer, I noticed someone standing in the middle of a large circle. He had a smirk on his lips as he watched my jumping from the dog's back, landing safely next to Chase. " Who is this idiot?" I said it out loud on purpose, just to rattle his cage, I knew it was Syngen. He growled at me as he spoke up.
" I, my lady, am your future husband and mate." I choked on my breath as I looked up at Chase to see a very pained look on his face. It can't be true, how do I have two mates? Without realizing, I moved into the circle of people, all watching with bated breath to see the outcome. I stepped up to Syngen and looked into his eyes, I could see the love he had for me yes. But before that could win me over, I remembered the visions from my mother and what he did to her. I thought about our warriors bleeding out on the fields surrounding the estate. I gave a small smile to him, making him think he has won me over. And just as he reached out to touch me, my little monster went all berserk and attacked him as I watched in silence. He didn't know what the hell was happening but he eventually realized it was me. He sneered at me, looking like the real monster he is. " I will never love you. You are worse than the lowly demons who feast off the shit on my shoes. Now let us end this."

He came at me rather quickly, but just as he went to touch me he was flying into thew air as fire surged forward and wrapped around him. " You have to reject him love. It'll weaken him and you can get the final blow in." I heard Chase whisper to me. It seems Syngen cast a spell to keep everyone out of this lovely circle of doom, except for me. I watched him escape the flames looking a little toasty, which had me giggling like a little girl. " You seem confused Syngen, what's the matter?" I asked as I followed his every step and countered. " How can you attack me? You are my mate. I can feel it. You're not supposed to be able to do this. I didn't count on this, I can't hurt you." Shocked at his words, I looked at Chase to confirm and realized my mistake. As I took my eyes off of him, he launched his body at me and I came crashing into the ground with him on top of me. Before I could shift to slip out from under him, he bit down on my neck and marked me.
I couldn't move. He marked me, how was that even possible. Now I had these urges to run to him as he stood across from me, watching my reaction. Chase was going crazy outside the circle, his eyes were blood red and he was screaming for Syngen to let him in so he could kill him himself.

I felt something inside me nudge me, and as I felt it, Chase calmed down instantly, looking directly at me. He had tears streaming down his face as reality suddenly came flying back into my mind. With determination, I stood up and looked at Syngen. " I Scarlett Winters, Princess of Earth and the Underworld, reject you Syngen as my mate." I said it out loud for all to hear and just as the words escaped from my lips, he charged at me, I could see he has snapped and lost all control. Without panic, I closed my eyes and help my hands up for him to stop. Within a second he was a few feet away from me. " How the hell are you doing this, you have no power over me you bitch!!!" I simple stood there smiling at him gently. " Who created you? My father? So only he can control you, is that not true? But, you forget one thing. I am the princess and I'm even stronger than my father alone. I have the power of both worlds on my side. My job, is to keep the balance and you are disturbing my peace. You will not touch me again, if you do, I will ask Cerberus to keep you as his new chew toy. Now, it's time for a little change. I can't kill you, because you are after-all a part of me. And I can't take that chance, but I can make you bow down to me and obey. Which I feel is even worse than death in your eyes."

He looked so pissed off, but he couldn't move a muscle. As I spoke the words, you could see every emotion and memory disappear from his eyes. And as he slumped to the ground, I gave him back his humanity and the grief for all he has killed. He won't die, but he will suffer for eternity. His spells were broken and his minions disappeared without another word. As I looked over at Chase, I felt my body give in. Time for a very long rest, that's exactly what I need. I felt arms wrap around my body and lift me into his embrace. I snuggled my face into his chest as I felt him moving towards the house. And my world once again went black, nothing could reach me here. I just hope when I wake up, it will all be as it should be.
