He offered a smile

she turned away

signaling

she didn't want to play

His face was flushed

his ego crushed

He sat at his table

roiling inside

then tasted his drink

letting discomfiture subside

He glanced again

and caught her peeking

and knew right off

she was attention seeking

Shrugging indifference

he turned away

this was a game

that two could play

let her make first move

he had nothing to prove

Some moments passed

she paid her bill

walked by his table

with practiced skill

She dropped a key

with a trailing hand

that indicated her moves

were all well planned

He watched her leave

his libido set to grieve

With a plan of his own

he left the hotel

locating the vagrant

in the empty stairwell

Expressing sympathy

he gave him the key

encouraging a good rest

and smiling touchingly

With an inward chuckle

he strode away

wondering what she would do

and just what she would say

He removed his own key

and then laughed loudly

she just beat him to it

before he even said howdy
