The Dragon

Dedicated to @MyBabyDragon

Above the village was a darkened cave

housed inside a craggy hill

and at its entrance the villagers placed

a brimming bowl of cacodyl

It was the latest desperation tried

to kill the creature that lived inside

They waited huddled in their homes

trembling at the sudden sound

that told them their enticement

had unquestionably been found

Now would it do what the village needed

or would the offering go unheeded

For them to survive meant killing the beast

but confronting the dragon that ruled their lives

was a futile task for them to try

with nothing more than sticks and knives

Down the mountain the dread roar thundered

the village population feared they'd blundered

Then suddenly the sky grew dark

the sun was blocked by massive wings

then the dragon spiralled down to earth

dispelling all long held misgivings

Proving that good will always prevail

whenever there's a determined will

and it never hurts to have on hand

a brimming bowl of cacodyl

You asked for one! :)
