Prologue:

Don't Make A Wish

THERE THAT WEIRD SUN WAS AGAIN, THE PURPLE ONE. My head began spinning just looking at it. Last time I checked, the sun was yellow, or was it orange? Who cares, I barely could remember anything anyway. I fixed my oversized glasses that shaded by aqua blue eyes, and then turned around suddenly. There was an open door that stood before me, shining an even brighter light to my poor eyeballs. My mixed skin was exposed, yes, I am black and white. Back to the important stuff, my skin was exposed and I felt like a vacuum was sucking me into the door.

It's time for you to go back to your family, I won't let you die, not this time my child, a voice said to me, echoing off of the atmosphere.

"Who's there!? What are you talking about!?" I cried, really scared at all of the crap that was happening to me. The brown wooden door opened wider, and then for a swift second, I paused right in front of the door....and then it happened. I fell in, screaming into the seemingly bottomless darkness. Everything is going to be alright; I told myself. I hope. A piece of chalk dropped beside me, and for some strange reason, I felt the need to grab it. I began drawing another door, and said, "I'm waking up now, this is all a dream-"

"Who are you, what is your name? How are you going to escape?" asked a raspy feminine voice. Who was I was a really good question, I couldn't remember anything about me, what was happening?

"I'm waking up right now!" I yelled, grabbing the doorknob. I jerked up from a strange and small bed. I scanned the room to see that I was connected to about four machines, hospital. My long sandy brown hair was covering my face, and my glasses were chunked across the room. All of a sudden, I began getting flashes of memories, my memories. Everything was coming back to me now, how come I couldn't remember anything in that dream.

The better question would also be, why was I in the hospital. I rubbed my head as a woman with her back turned stood in front of the room, it sounded like she was crying. From her pale white skin, and her long black hair, I knew that it was my Aunt Michelle.

"Aunt Michelle, why are you crying? I'm not dead yet." I said, yawning. Aunt Ems quickly spun around with blood coming down her face and I screamed. "You might not be, but I am!" I gasped and woke up again, inside the Tahoe of my Aunt Michelle and Uncle Peter. My little brother, Brenan was clapping in his car seat. I tickled his stomach, thanking him from saving me from that terrible nightmare. He giggled and tried fighting off my fingers. Brenan was super cute, however, he suffered from heart murmurs. He would never be able to play any sports.

"Elena, we are in Half Moon Bay, we are going to go by this cafe and then we will head to our new home," said Uncle Peter.

"Alright."

Sometimes it is hard to believe that almost three months ago, I came out of a coma that lasted seven months. No one knows how it happened, not even me. Everything before waking up in the hospital is a blur. I looked to my reflection in the mirror, staring at the girl that I had once known as Rebecca. Gosh I hated that name, that's why I decided to go buy my middle name, Elena. The car came to a peaceful stop and my brother clapped his hands together again, showing his gorgeous front teeth. Brenan was about four.

We all stepped out of the car and walked into the cafe, my stomach rumbling like a machine gun. I noticed a red Ferrari parked outside the cafe, and then a yellow one, and then a lime green one. Damn, how many of these things does everyone have? There were numerous top notch, and also what it looked to be, top notched people surrounding them. However, one guy stood out the most to me. He was tall, tanned, he had smooth brown hair, clear grey eyes, did I mention he was tall!? Like he had to be at least 6'8.

He had his arms wrapped around a red headed chick, she was really pretty too. She was thin, short, and had really high cheek bones. She shot her hands down the boys pants and I jumped in awkwardness. That is disgusting. I also felt offended by that girl's actions. Tall and handsome locked onto my eyes and I could see him shiver. The girl patted his arms, but he kept his grey eyes on my blue ones and I must say, I didn't mind if it lasted forever. Wait a minute, what the hell are you talking about Rebecca, you don't even know him.

"Elena, can you go get Brenan's toy out of the car, he might start crying without it." asked Aunt Michelle.

"Sure." I replied, sadly breaking my stare with Tall and Handsome. I dragged my feet back to the Tahoe grabbed my brother's Iron Man action figure. When I shut the door, I turned around to see half of the people that were at the fancy cars standing right in front of me. I lowered my eyes to the ground and tried to budge through them, but no one in the crowd would let me get through. My eyes came to him.

"What are you doing here on my land mutt?" said Tall and Handsome.

"Excuse me, I'm sorry. Do I know you?" I asked, trying to avoid conflict.

"You should, just like you should know what's about to happen."

"And what's that?" I raised a brow.

"I, Ashton Michaels reject you as my mate."

"I don't know what that means but, thanks?" I asked as more of a question to me than him. The boy, Ashton, looked hurt by my words. What was I supposed to say, I didn't even know what he was talking about. "By the way, this is America, you don't have to say mate in terms of friends dufus."

One of the other guys, he was mixed, talk, and had curly hair came up to me and said, "you obviously have no respect for authority do you?" He was cute too, and extremely tall. I saw my aunt come outside and I waved to her, telling her that I was coming soon. I them stated, "no, I just have no respect for people who purposely make conflict. So if you don't mind, I think I'm going to go where the wind doesn't blow so hard." As soon as I said that, the wind because blowing like a tornado was near. I quickly walked into the building, that was so weird. I take one last look at all of those kids heading towards their fancy cars.

Sitting with my family, I feel myself thinking, this is not going to be easy.

So this is my first book about mates, and my first book with a different type of relationship. I will try to post every week at least once, please vote and comment. I think everyone will enjoy this as much as I will enjoy writing. And for a change, the character is mixed.:)
