Chapter 8:Elena's POV
AS I CAME DOWN FROM THE STAIRS THE FOLLOWING MORNING, I took in the lonely atmosphere. I wasn't going to bother going to school today. I went into the fridge, taking out the carton of half eaten mint chocolate chip ice cream and sat on the couch with my robe on. All of a sudden, the ice cream carton began smoking and I looked at the now melted ice cream that laid in the carton. I knew it was me! I had powers, and I wasn't overreacting about it. I know what you were probably thinking, how could a teenage girl not be scared that she could practically hurt someone without touching them? I don't know, but I could.
There was a knock at my door and I silently got up and went to the door. I opened it with insecurity and was surprised to see Ashton standing there. "Hello." he said. He had a movie and donuts in his hands. "Thought you'd want some type of company." I welcomed him in and closed the door behind him. He was being really sweet lately. He plopped down on the couch and I sat down beside him, at a distance however. He sadly smiled to me and asked, "how are you doing?" he asked. I nodded, meaning that I was ok.
"We might not like each other, but, I can feel the pain you're feeling right now. Almost my entire family was killed in 1981. I never got to meet any of them, and, my family was almost never happy while I was a kid. It has taken us thirty-four years to get over their deaths and guess what?"
"What?"
"I had someone to comfort me, my best friend who unfortunately died in a battle with cancer. Her name was Sarah. She was important to me."
"You loved her?" I asked, curious.
"Almost did, but almost is never enough. Listen, I- I don't know how to apologize to you any more than I already have. I have been nothing but a douchebag to you and all of that is going to stop. If you will allow me, I'd like to take you out on a date." said Ashton. I was shocked at the fact that one of the town's most respected, most strong and seemingly to be most powerful figures asked me out. It was comforting and I couldn't disagree, I was ok with him asking me. I looked into his beautiful green eyes and just stared into them for what seemed to be like forever. His eyes slightly changed to what looked to be yellow, but immediately went back to green.
"I think there's something wrong with your eyes," I said.
"Why do you say that?"
"...nevermind, it's early. I haven't ate anything but mint chocolate chip ice cream." I laughed, sounding almost drunk. There was another knock at the door and I opened to be greeted by Veronica. She was wearing a short red dress, black stockings, black heeled boots, a red coat, and a beanie. "You ready?" she asked me. I had totally forgot that her, Sidmin and I were supposed to head down to the local paper ran by Mr. Drake himself. I told her to hold on while I got dressed. I put on a pair of leather khaki pants, a dark brown long sleeve plain shirt and a pair of sandals. It was a pretty chilly day you could probably tell. "Is it ok if I come with?" asked Ashton.
"I don't know if dogs and cats mix." she replied, rolling her eyes.
"Are you saying that he smells like a dog?" I asked, confused as hell.
"He knows what I'm talking about. You can come, but keep your paws off of my windows. I just got the new Jetta and I don't want any paw prints on the windows!" As Veronica left, I smiled at Ashton. We both exited my house and walked across the street to meet Sidmin. He stepped outside before I could even knock on the door. He shut it quickly and said, "what are we waiting for?! Let's go." he yelled. He shoved us off of the porch and I peered my eyes to the garage, seeing a red BMW sitting in front of it. Sidmin didn't have a car. Was it Tyler? It had to be, they were all cuddled up at the hospital.
We got into the Jetta and drove to the newspaper building. It was a really quiet ride and super awkward. When we arrived, we all walked I quietly to see a tall white man, seemingly to be in his early fifties. He waved to Sidmin and I and shook Ashton's hand. "Welcome to the sanctuary of this town's mysterious past." he laughed. He was damn right. He walked over to Sidmin and I, handing us the newspaper with our parents on it.
"I wrote this story when I was still in law school. I remember this murder. The town was devastated and the worst part was, everyone know who did it. The police just never had enough evidence to prove it." said Mr. Drake, adjusting his glasses.
"Who do you think did it?" asked Ashton.
"I don't think this is the best situation where guesses and assumptions should be used. However, those two young adults didn't commit the murder, no evidence pointed to it. It seemed as if that family just...died." he paused. "That's not the weirdest thing though, I was going through some of my old archives and stumbled across something that you might find interesting." Mr. Drake handed us a small picture with the words "May 8th, 1947. Lauryn, Stanley, and Richard." I flipped the picture over to only look at another me in a black and white photo sitting on a swing bench beside Sidmin and a familiar face. I just couldn't describe it or pin point it down right now.
"It's like all over your ancestors look the same but somehow, they don't look the same." replied Veronica.
"How did my grandma know your grandpa?" I asked.
Ashton shivered and covered his head with his hand and said, "I have to go!" He almost yelled it and then he ran out. All of a sudden I began having some type of vision and then I spaced out on the floor, as Sidmin did the same. I saw a girl in the woods, she looked to be ten. She was surrounded by giant wolves and each wolf seemed to have a special power. Lightning was glowing around one, water circled around another, and one kept turning invisible and visible again. The girl screamed out as the wolves jumped out at her. I noticed a sign that said, "Bay Woods Entrance."
I boosted up with Sidmin and we both said, "we have to save her."
"Save who?" asked Veronica. Mr. Drake smiled, like he wasn't surprised.
"Quick, take us to the Bay Woods Entrance. Please!" I yelled.
