calum-

"calum! let's go!"

i grinned at kaeleigh as she rolled her eyes and walked out the door. i followed her with a goodbye to my parents, and got in next to her in the car.

"don't gotta be so impatient," i mumbled, starting the engine.

"i've been telling you all day we had to leave at five, and you decided to get ready at four-fifty." kaeleigh stated.

"but it's only five-oh-two," i pointed out, and leaned over and kissed her cheek. "and we'll make it a few minutes early. stop stressing, baby, it's perfectly fine to be a little late."

"but it's luke's birthday," she emphasized. "i don't want to be late and ruin anything."

i chuckled as i pulled out of the driveway. "kae, it's okay, luke wouldn't care."

kaeleigh huffed, not responding but changing the radio channel. an unfamiliar song burst through the speakers, but kaeleigh sang along softly while looking out the windows.

"kae." i said a few minutes later, briefly looking over at her. she turned her head to me, raising an eyebrow. "don't be mad."

a smile pulled at her lips, "cal, i'm not mad at all."

"okay." i nodded. "good."

we arrived at luke's within a few minutes, and i grabbed kaeleigh's hand as we walked to the door. she raised her fist to knock, but the door swung open to reveal a smiling blonde boy.

"happy birthday, luke." kaeleigh grinned, letting go of my hand to give him a hug. he thanked her, and then i took her place in the embrace.

"look, you're an adult now." i chuckled, "happy birthday."

"thanks!" luke said brightly. "so ash is here, but michael said he'll he running late."

"see!" i exclaimed, looking at kaeleigh. "we wouldn't have been the last ones to get here."

kaeleigh rolled her eyes as we followed luke to the basement. "we might have if you had taken longer."

luke shrugged, "it wouldn't have mattered. dinner won't be ready for another hour."

i grinned triumphantly at her, but she she just bumped her shoulder into mine with another eye roll. we closed the basement door behind us, and sat on the smaller couch.

"hey, kae, cal." ashton greeted, not taking his eyes off the screen, on which he was playing a video game.

"hi ash," kae waved.

"dude!" i shouted, "that was such a stupid move! now he's gonna come from behind you and just shoot you."

"damn it."

i made ashton pause the game so i could sync another controller, while luke and kaeleigh talked animatedly in the back. when the game started, ashton cursed loudly, for he immediately got shot down.

"told you!"

"you fücking asśhole."

i heard a laugh in the back, and turned around to see kaeleigh clutching her stomach while luke rested his face in his hands, both of them laughing hard. she straightened and slapped his arm, at which he winked, causing her to turn red.
