kaeleigh-four days later, luke was released from the hospital. the cast would be kept on for eight more weeks, as the doctors had decided. the boot on his leg would only have to be worn during the day, so he didn't have to sleep with it on. liz had officially put him on house arrest, so he was stuck up in his room for the next few days.
as for the rest of us, we were currently at calum's house. his parents were on vacation, and since he decided not to go, he was left home alone. ash had immediately suggested a party, but calum shot his idea down. instead, we settled on a giant "sleepover" as michael called it.
my mum and dad were perfectly fine with it, but only because ashton and michael would be there. they claimed they didn't want me alone with calum for the night, even though with both knew i had done it plenty of times, and they didn't really have a say anyway.
"i say we build a huge fort," michael spoke, as we all stared at the pile of blankets and pillows we had collected. "we can put the laptop and stuff in there and facetime luke."
the three of us shrugged, and ashton and michael began to build the fort. calum and i went to the kitchen to get snacks and drinks.
"no alcohol," calum muttered, rummaging through the fridge. "dammit mum."
i chuckled, grabbing two bags of chips as well as popcorn. "she's left you home alone before. she knows what she's doing."
"unfortunately." he stated, placing bottles of water and cans of soda on the counter.
i made my way owards him, wrapping my arms around his waist. calum leaned forward to kiss me softly, and then pulled away to rest his forehead against mine. "i love you."
i smiled. "i love you too."
"hey! lovebirds! come look at this!"
with an eye roll, we gathered the items and returned to the living room. the two boys had managed to drape a large blanket from one couch to another, and pushed the table out of the way to place another blanket on top of that one and the chair.
"nice job." i stated, and proceeded to duck under the blankets and into the fort. it was small, so the four of us were pretty squished. i had to squeeze against calum, not that he minded.
michael took his phone out and dialed luke on facetime. the blonde answered quickly and said brightly, "hi!"
-
two hours later, luke had hung up, and ashton and michael were asleep. the chips were gone, and sodas empty.
"hey," calum whispered in my ear. "can we go up to my room so we can talk louder?"
i nodded, and we quietly crawled out of the fort, and bounded up the stairs. calum closed his bedroom door softly as i jumped onto the bed.
he chuckled at me and crawled in next to me. we both sat facing each other, smiles on our faces.
i leaned in to lightly kiss him, but he placed his hands behind my head to deepen the kiss. i grinned against his lips, tangling my fingers in his hair. he made a muffled sound, and i pulled away to laugh loudly.
calum pouted, "i like when you play with my hair. it feels good."
i wiggled my body so that i wasn't facing him, leaning against the headboard, and patted my lap. calum laid down slowly, resting his head on my legs. i ran my fingers through his hair, softly pulling and twisting the strands. he closed his eyes in comfort.
"hey cal?"
"yeah kae?"
"what are we going to do?"
he opened his eyes to look at me in confusion. "what do you mean?"
"like," i paused to thing of the words. "i guess just in general. where are we going? what are we doing?"
"oh," calum closed his eyes again. "i don't know. do we have to know? i mean, you and i are gonna get a little apartment. and you're gonna finish your books, and get them published. then the boys and i will get signed, and we'll take you on tour with us. if you're lucky, you can write our biography." i chuckled at that. "and the boys will meet people and we'll all go places. and we'll have a decent life. we'll be good."
"good." i whispered. "i'd like that."
"speaking of which, do you wanna move in with me?"
i stared at him in surprise, my fingers halting in his hair. "what?"
"do you wanna move in with me?" calum asked again. "wasn't that the plan?"
it was the plan. but now calum and i are in a relationship. isn't that moving too fast?
"well, yeah." i answered. "but we've been dating for like, two months. i know we always said we would, but-"
"i get it," he interrupted. "i'm not gonna force you to. but it won't be different. you're still my best friend. and i want out of here. out of this neighborhood and out of my parents' house."
"oh."
"oh."
"so you are moving out?"
"yeah." calum responded. "i haven't looked for a place or anything, but i want to. i mentioned it to my parents last night."
"oh."
i didn't what else to say.
"yeah."
"take me with you." i said eventually. "take me out of this neighborhood and out of our parents' houses. so that we can stay up late every night and i'll make hot chocolate when it's cold and you don't have to cross the street to say goodnight. we'll bring maxie and she can have her own little dog bed, but she'll never use it because she'll sleep at the foot of ours. and then you guys can go on tour and i'll go with you, because we'll have a place where we can go back to."
calum stared at me.
he sat up, and lay beside me, tossing a blanket over us. he pulled me into him, kissing the top of my head, and sighed. "of course i'm taking you with me. and i don't care how late we stay up, as long as i get to sleep right next to you."
i fell asleep in his arms.
like always.
but not like always.
it was different.
everything was happening at once.
i didn't want it to stop.
