Chapter 12
As soon as Wes and I got to the hospital we both sprinted into the building and to the main desk. The girl behind it seemed surprised and startled when Wesley put both of his hands on the desk and spoke, worry laced into his voice.
“I'm here to see my brother, Keaton Stromberg.”
The girl paused before looking at the screen of her computer. When she looked back up she had a sympathetic look on her face.
“Yes, he was checked in not too long ago.” That's all she said and I grew angry at her. Did she not know why the hell we were here? Was she that freaking dense?
“Well, where is he?” I asked impatiently. She looked over to me with a bit of a glare before answering.
“Third floor,” she said and Wesley and I started to take off towards the elevator. “But you'll have to wait in the waiting room!” She yelled as we luckily didn't have to wait very long. The few seconds in that elevator alone with Wes was very tense. He was tapping his foot and gripping onto the side handles with so much force. I knew his mind was in a frenzy and I prayed to God that Keaton was okay.
When the doors opened we were met with a waiting room filled with only a few other people. As me and Wes left the elevator we heard Drew's voice call out to us.
“Wes! Kim! Over here!” He said. Both of our eyes snapped over to him on the other side of the room and Wes ran over to him. I saw Tori sitting down in one of the seats, her eyes red and puffy.
“Any word?” I heard Wes ask as I caught up with him.
“Nah. They won't tell me anything since I'm not family.” Drew replied sounding frustrated. Instantly Wesley went to the desk and I took a seat next to Tori.
“What happened?” I asked both Tori and Drew.
Tori just shook her head and closed her eyes, trying to hold back more tears. I looked up at Drew who sat down on the other side of Tori. He glanced up at me.
“We went somewhere to get some take out. Keaton's food finished first and the place we were at was crowded so he said he would wait outside for us. Right when Tori stepped outside...” Drew paused and Tori covered her mouth as if she was trying to hold back a sob, “a car sped up and rammed into Keaton who was on the side the sidewalk. The son of a bitch did a hit and run.” He finished with a growl.
I ran a hand through my hair and sat back in my seat. I felt the sting of familiar tears at the corner of my eyes. I pushed them down though just as Wes walked back up to us. He looked worried and angry.
“What did they say?” Tori asked looking up at Wes with hope.
“They only told me that he's hurt real bad and that they are working on him. They won't fucking tell me anything else.” He answered starting to pace.
In my mind I hoped that Keaton was going to be okay. What sick son of a bitch would do something....no. No. No. No. Collin wouldn't. He just wouldn't. My brain told me he wouldn't risk doing something like that so early in the game. But my gut...my gut told me otherwise. Instantly I felt my entire set of mind of being able to get past this with Wesley begin to crack.
Keaton was the one to get hurt. Badly hurt.
And once again this is my fault. Keaton could have been killed...because of me. Instantly I felt like I was going to be sick. I needed to get to a bathroom. Frantically I looked around and once I saw the sign for the girls I stood up and went for it without saying anything to anyone.
