“You okay?” Monique asked during homeroom the other day.
I nod “Yeah.”
“You sure?” Alex asked.
I nod. I woke this morning feeling my eyes weighing a ton of too much crying the other night. I wasn’t able to eat a nice meal this morning either.
“Do you she should know?” I heard Monique asked Alex.
I sense Alex shook her head “No, I’ll tell her soon. Not right now.”
I cough to tell them I’m here listening. I felt Alex stiff beside me. “What are you going to tell me?”
Monique and Alex exchange looks “Nothing,” Monique said.
I raise one eyebrow at them “Really?”
“Reese, we’ll tell you soon, but not right now, okay?” Alex said.
I sigh and nodded. They both know I hated it if they kept something from me. The thirty minutes homeroom bell rang and students run off to their classes. Alex went to her Computer class and Monique to her Geometry class. I wonder what those girls are up to.
My phone vibrated while I was going to English. I nearly drop my phone when I saw Ryan send me a message.
Ryan: Meet me at launch. Same time same place.
Huh, typical. Let him wait. He deserves it.
XOXO
“How would you ask them?” I asked Cris and Eric, who happens to pass by.
“I don’t know yet,” Cris shrug, adjusting his bow.
“Just looking for the right timing,” Eric second.
I laugh “When would that be? During Prom?”
Eric just smiled and Cris started shooting. I stood up to practice. I turn to grab my quiver when I saw Ryan hands on his jacket, walking towards me.
He met my eyes and smiled. I felt my heart beat faster and I took a sharp intake of breath. Damn, stop acting like it didn’t happened.
“Hey,” he said when he is a few meters away.
I was about to answer when I remember what he did. I turn to see Eric and Cris giving Ryan a hard look. I signaled them to leave me after a few glare games. I won.
“What are you doing here?” I said.
He shrugs “I just wanna find out if you receive my text to you this morning.”
I cross my arm at my chest “So?”
“So why didn’t you arrive at lunch?”
I hug myself tighter “Why? What would happen if I didn’t come?”
“Are you okay?” He sounded sincere.
Hold on, Reese. “If okay means seeing someone drape his arm around a girl and asked if I’m okay,” I nodded “Yeah. I’m okay.”
He chuckled “Is something wrong?”
“Nothing,” I said, pulling out a poker face.
“Tell me,” he said softly.
“Why? If I tell you will it change anything?”
“But it might help.”
“You know what,” I snapped at him “just leave okay?” I turn my back at him.
“Wait,” he grabs my elbow “I’m sorry.”
I gasp when I feel his skin against me elbow. No, not now. Monique where are you? I need you.
