It’s an hour before Prom starts and I feel butterflies in my stomach as I stand in front of my full-body mirror.

“You’re beautiful,” Rachel came up beside me, with a dreamy look in her eyes “I wish I could wear something like that.”

I bend down in front of her. “Some day,”

There was a knock at my door. “Come in,” I say.

“Hey, are you ready?” Dad peek his head inside.

I nodded and went downstairs where Mom was adjusting the tripod of the camera and set it in timer mode. Dad positioned me between him and Mom with the fireplace as our background.

I put on a smile when the camera flashed. There was a knock on the door and Dad went to answer it. Mom looked at me, eyebrows raised. I nodded at her and smiled.

Dad came back with Ryan following behind. The sight of him doesn’t give the butterflies anymore, but right now seeing him standing there in a tux seemed so wrong. There is something missing.

“Wow,” Ryan gasps “You’re beautiful.”

I smiled. I guess, Mom sensed something wrong, that she took my hand and drag me towards the kitchen.

“We’ll be back.” Mom called after to Dad.

Mom took a glass and fills it with cold water and hand it out to me. “Are you okay?”

I sip and nod “Yeah.”

“You’re a little pale,” Mom touched my face “Are you sure?”

I nod. “Yes, Mom. I’m just nervous.”

Mom laughed. “Everyone does.” She kissed me in the forehead “Just be yourself.”

Mom and I went back to the living room where Ryan and Dad are talking, but stopped when they saw us coming.

Dad took a picture of us and walks us out the door. Ryan held out his hand for me, I was about to hold Ryan’s hand when Dad hold it away from Ryan.

“Bring her home before midnight,” Dad said seriously.

“Dad, I’m not Cinderella,” I roll my eyes but no one minded me.

Dad was looking at Ryan waiting for his answer.

Ryan nodded “I will”

Dad smiled and handed my hand to Ryan, which he held tightly.

“You guys have fun,” Dad waved at us when Ryan closed the door of his limo. Oh, forgot to tell you something. Ryan is stinking rich don’t wonder why he owns a limo.

Ryan sat beside. No one talked the whole trip going to school. I here riding a limo with no one to talk to, if only Jess was here. I sigh. Why was I thinking about him?

I feel the limo stopped in front of the school’s gym.

Light of green, blue, white and red are dancing around the gym and the music is a blast.

The prom committee did a great job in making the gym look like a fairytale land. Rapunzel’s tower was there; even Sleeping Beauty’s castle was there!

The walls are colored with mint green. The tables are of green and white. White roses are placed in the center of each table. A disco ball was hanging above us.

Girls in different dresses and guys with exactly the same tuxedo design danced on the dance floor. The whole place is beautiful. Then I saw her, Denise and her best friend, Francesca, standing near to Sleeping Beauty’s palace. The sight of them both made me want to churn.
