(ten years later)
"The clouds won't move when you just stare at them, Reese," Jess joked, while his eyes never leave the road.
"Ha. Ha. Ha." I mocked at him. "Just keep on driving."
And he did. I stare out the window as we stroll towards Alex's rest house. We haven't seen each other for a long time. After high school we go our separate ways. Gladly, that everyone made it, well maybe, except for me.
We pass by a sign saying we are near the rest house. We are high up in the mountain, so, everything is green. The trees, so high, that they are touching the sky. We came near a house facing a wide scenery below. There was a long table in front of the lawn. Jess killed the machine and hopped out.
Alex and Cris are setting up the table while Eric and Monique are grilling the pork.
"Hey, guys!" I called out to get their attention.
"Reese!" Monique squeaked, then rushed to hug me.
"Hey," I hug her back.
Monique let go then Alex hugged me. "Hey, Reese, how are you?"
"Still a student," I shrug.
Alex nodded, "I can see that!" then to Jess "Hey, Jess."
"Hey, Alex." Jess head popped out the compartment. "Hey, Monique." Jess had his hands on his waist "Guys, I need help pulling this ice box."
Cris same around to help him get the box out and place it under the table. Eric placed the grilled pork on the table and Monique helped in slicing them into halves. Alex went inside the house to g the salad and I went to the backseat of the car to pull out a cake.
Everyone gathered around the table to say a prayer of thanks. When the final word was said, everyone sat in pairs and passed the meals around.
"So," Monique, who sat in front of me asked Alex. "How's the married couples?"
Alex and Cris laughs."We are fine," Alex said getting a salad. "Fun actually."
"Cris?" I asked.
Cris chuckles. "We are fine except for the times she freaked out when she saw meat in the fridge."
We all laugh except for Alex, who was frowning at Cris. Cris smirked at her.
"How about you, Jess?" Monique asked. "when do you plan to marry Reese?"
I kicked Monique under the table. "Not so fast, I haven't even finished college yet."
"Reese, when do you plan to get married? When we our age is past the calendar?"
"Not really," I laugh "I just want to finish school first."
"Jess, do you agree to this?" Eric pointed the spoon in front of Jess as if interviewing him. Eric is a well-known reporter.
Jess laughs. "Sure, why not?"
"Sure, why not, because as far as I know you'll be riding a ship already, right, Captain?" Monique raised her eyebrow.
"Next month actually."
I saw Alex pass the soda to Cris. She never pass over a soda. Monique saw my expression and mouthed "She is--"
Monique didn't continue what she was about to say because Eric called her name. Alex is what?
Everyone starts to chat about marriage. Monique and Eric are planning to get marry next month. Too bad Jess wouldn't make it. Alex tap the plate with her fork to get everyone's attention.
"Me and Cris have an announcement to make," She stood up.
"Okay, drum roll," Monique said and Eric tap the table.
There was a moment of silence then Alex said. "I'm pregnant."
I stare at her, amazed. I could see everyone held the same expression.
"How long?" Jess asked.
"It's three month already," Cris answered with a smile.
I stood up to hug her. "I'm so proud of you."
"Thanks, Reese," She hugs me back. "Will you be his godparent?"
"Of course,"
Monique hugs Alex while Eric shook hands with Cris.
"Someone is going to be a dad," Jess slap Cris at the back.
Ten years didn't change everybody enough. Except that soon we all be going to have our own family someday. As days pass by, we are getting old and soon be away, but still there is always this one thing that would connect us to each other. The thing called love.
