When I step foot at school this morning, I knew everything would change. From the way Denise and Francesca acted when they saw me. I felt me again. No pain and free. Just except for the look Ashley gave to me when Jess ran up beside me and took my hand.
"Hey," I smiled up at him.
"Hi," he said, squeezing my hand.
Just that. I'm fine with that. I felt Jess stop walking. I look at him but he was staring ahead. I turn to the direction he was looking, then I saw Ryan, waiting by my locker. I guess, he sensed me and Jess looking at him that he stood up straight and walked near us.
"Hey Jess, hey, Reese," He said quietly, hand on his Jean's pocket.
"hey," I said, quietly while Jess said nothing.
" Can I talk to her alone for a minute?" Ryan addressed Jess.
Jess asked me with his eyes. I nodded at him. "Call me after you guys talked." Jess kissed me on the forehead before leaving me with Ryan.
"What do you want to talk about?" I said, irritation evident on my face.
"Where were you during Prom?" he asked.
"Away," I simply answered.
"I searched for you that night but you weren't around."
"Does it matter?"
"Of course, it mattered. You were my date."
"Your date?" I scoffed "Stop acting like a worried date because you weren't."
"What do you mean?"
"I was your date that time but I saw you making out with Francesca on the dance floor!"
"What are you talking about?"
Look at him. Trying to act innocent. "That's what I'm talk I'm about. Don't you dare say I'm wrong because if you ask anyone that night they would definitely say the same thing."
"That's not what you thought--"
"Not?" I snapped "You me made me look like an idiot that time."
"Reese, I'm sorry."
"Sorry?" I scoff "You don't sound sorry yourself."
"Please, I'm sorry," hr grab my hand "I'll never do it again."
I let go of his hand like he was a germ clinging on me "I've already gave you a second chance to make things right, but what did you do? Once, was okay. Twice," I shook my head "is enough."
I turn my back at him "There are three types of sorry. I'm sorry. I'll never do it again and What will I do to make things right. But sadly, you forgot the last part."
I left him alone, stunned as I make my way towards the gym. I sat at the bleachers staring at the empty basketball court. The tears I kept awhile ago flows. I can't believe I wasn't able to cry in front of him. I felt my phone vibrated and I saw Jess calling. I dried my tears before answering.
"Hello?" I said quietly.
"Reese," he said in relief "Where are you? Are you and Ryan done talking?"
"I'm at the gym."
"With Ryan?"
"No, I'm alone."
"I'll be there," then the conversation is over.
Maybe five minute has passed, Jess arrived with a guitar.
"So, how's everything?" He asked.
"Its over," I smiled.
I grab the guitar from him and strum any chords I could think. "I was too immature before, carried along with someone else enthusiasm, I did not know what I was doing and I don't want to make the same mistakes again. I was so proud of myself, you know, because I wasn't able to cry in front of him and I can't believe he's being stolid."
He was quite as if gathering everything I said. "You shouldn't cry over him. He's not worth it."
I chuckled "But if you did that to me, I'll definitely cry."
"Why?"
I smiled at him "You are worth the tears."
He chuckled and took the guitar from me. He strummed.
" Because if you,
My life has changed
Thank you for the love
and the joy you bring
Because of you,
I feel no same, I'll tell the world
Its because of you."
Wow. that's all I said. Wow. He has a great voice.
" Wow." I couldn't hide it anymore "You wrote the song?"
He laugh "No."
"Okay," I really thought he wrote the song.
He laugh at me. See that? He actually laughed at me, but he stopped when he saw my reaction. He stare at me as if I was his only world.
He grab my hand with his and held it firmly "Reese, do you think I had a chance?"
And I smiled.
