Contains spoilers for Wicked!

Soul and Maka finally earned a vacation. They'd been working extremely hard, and Lord Death suspected that the stress was getting to them, and he sent them to where?

New York.

On the visit to the Empire state building, the baggage check and long lines exausted both of them. When they got their audio tapes with the little minigames, Maka started taking the Empire State Building quiz.

An outburst from Maka made Soul jump. "How dARE THEY!? HOW DARE THEY MENTION THE PERCY JACKSON MOVIES!!?" Maka shoved the screen at his face-a question asked which movie took place on the top of the Empire State Building. Although she couldn't help marvelling at the city when they reached the deck, she still harbored a secret hate that Soul could sense.

When Soul suggested Broadway, Maka immediately insisted that they watch Wicked. "No. I've never seen a Broadway show; and I really want to see Wicked! Please! If Wicked is here, we're watching it! Please?" Maka begged, and Soul caved. "Fine..." he replied, unable to resist her begging. He had never seen her this excited before.
Just wait until Maka figured out that it was playing.

Maka actually squealed and flung her arms around her partner. "Thankyouthankyouthankyou!!!" she exclaimed.

As they listened and watched the performers, Maka rested her head on Soul's chest, making both of their hearts beat faster.
Once Elphaba started yelling at Fiyero, Maka stared at the stage with this look that made Soul uncomfortable and kind of terrified. The 'ship' look.

And then after the Elphaba/Fiyero moment right before I'm Not That Girl, Maka sighed because of the typical love triangle, yet the triangle was done well.
Soul knew that Maka wanted to rant when Glinda wouldn't leave with Elphaba- I could almost hear what she was thinking. 'What a bitch! Grovel in submission she does! Isn't that supposed to be her 'best friend'?'
"I so called it!" She yelled during the applause after As Long As You're Mine, which she was, in fact, crying tears. When Soul asked why, all she responded with was, "It was beautiful. He finally made the right decision!"

At that, Soul wondered if he could ever make a decision that made her happy like that, and instantly reigned in his thoughts.
Later, she was sobbing into his shoulder when Elphaba is melted. And then she starts crying again of relief when Elphaba really isn't dead. It's not a real surprise, although Soul was shocked to find that he was holding back tears himself when Elphaba 'melted,' although he was skeptical. But really, it was going to far to think she was dead! Seriously, though!

Who the hell gets melted by water?

*4 months later*

"Dude, we're so being Elphaba and Glinda for Halloween! I don't care what you say!"
"But Maka, it's going to ruin my cool!"
"You don't have any 'cool' to ruin!" Maka shot back, making air quotes around the cool.
"Fine, you win! But nothing too girly."
Maka grinned evilly. She knew just the right dress.

Once their orders came, Maka hid them under her bed, refusing to let Soul see his own costume. "Soul, we're not sending it back! It came as a pair, and I really like mine! If we sent yours back, we'd have to send mine!"
Soul sighed, knowing that the battle was won before it was started. He hadn't seen his costume yet, but there had to be a reason that Maka was keeping it away from him.

"No. No, no, no, and no."
"Come on, Soul, it can't be that bad!"
"Maka, you knew about this, you knew about the sparkles!"
Soul's dress was layered with pink sparkles. Whoops.
"Soul, get out, or I will break the door down!"
Soul shrugged. "I am NOT going out in this. I'm too old to trick-or-treat, anyway."

"No, you promised! We're going!"
"Fine! Have fun dragging me along after opening the door." Instantly, Maka tugged a hair pin from her black spray-dyed hair. A few seconds later, she picked the lock, and the door swung open, revealing a mortified Soul in front of the mirror.

And Maka burst out laughing.
