It had been 3 weeks since Jade had told me that she was pregnant and it had been 2 weeks since Aunty Joy came back from Turks and Caicos. When we went to pick her up from the airport I was expecting her to run up to Jade and slap her, drag her to car and sign her up and put her in a nunnery. Instead she ran to her, embracing her tightly; soothing Jades overwhelmed cries. After hugging me, she explained that my mum wasn’t coming back with her, I asked why numerous times but my Aunty just replied with
“She has business to attend to”
So in the end I stopped asking. It was beginning to feel like my mum was never coming home. With my Aunty Joy back home, Jade moved back in however I decided to stay at Reece’s house in order to give Jade a bit more space. Our room in the flat wasn’t that big, so with the baby coming I figured she needed as much space as she could get not including the fact that Jaden was more than likely going to be spending more time at the flat – it would just get too crowded, especially when my mother actually does decided to return home.
Celine didn’t have a problem with me staying, in fact she was happy I was. Maybe it was because she was the only female in the house with two testosterone fuelled boys towering over her – it must be refreshing to have another female in the house. Besides that, Celine’s home was beginning to feel like my home. I knew where everything was and she treated me like I was her daughter – we’d go out shopping together, she’d help me with my homework and I’d cook when she was working a night shift at the hospital, she was like the perfect mother to me. Everything was better at Celine except for the obvious way Reece ignored me…everything was fine. Just dandy.
“This baby needs to be well behaved. I cant be dealing with a no manners having child. I will slap it to the countryside you know’ complained Jade as we walked out of my dance class. Jade had been coming to watch me every Tuesday and Friday after college and then we’d walk home together, grabbing a bag of chips on the way. She said it was her way of exercising, but I knew it was her chance to get out of the house. Ever since she had moved back in, Aunty Joy had gone overboard with the parenting stuff, forcing Jade to read 3 parenting books a day and signing her up for teen mother groups and pregnancy classes. Both me and Jaden thought they were good ideas, but Jade just found them tedious and pointless – I would blame it on the hormones, but its not.
“You’re having Jaden’s child. I highly doubt it’s gonna be well behaved” I replied, walking into our favourite fish and chip shop “Simply Fishy”.
‘Mmh very true, very true” she said rubbing her small yet visible baby bump. I ordered our chips and we both sat down as we waited for them to prepare it.
“So is Reece still not speaking to you?’ she asked me
“Nope”
“This guy! I don’t understand how you can be living under the same roof with someone and be ignoring them 24/7” she said kissing her teeth. I shrugged my shoulders and got up when I heard our number being called and stood in the line behind two guys. I was looking down at my nails, inspecting my chipped nail polish when I felt someone tug on my hair.
‘You can’t say hello then nah?’
I looked up and smiled at Akeem and Kadeem who were standing in front of me.
“Hey” I replied hugging them quickly before we all grabbed our food. We walked back over to Jade who was standing up ready to go.
“Hey preggers” shouted Akeem as we approached Jade. Jade looked up from her phone and screwed Akeem, throwing a scrunched up piece of tissue his way.
“I hate that word man” she replied hugging Kadeem and slapping Akeem on his head.
‘Are you not pregnant!’ he shouted rubbing the back of his head. Jade gave him her middle finger before rolling her eyes.
