Chapter 12 - The Two Goals

MINETTE POV

We reached the hospital and used the elevator where her sister is. At last I'll meet her in person since I only see pictures on Louise's desk.

"Next time tip me off when using your stuff I feel like I'll puke the meals I had this morning. Geeshh! The bus is much better than flying." She grumbled while holding her head.

"If you became one of us you will understand patience is not our forte. Now, stop complaining and show me your sister's room." I gestured for us to go.

After some moments we entered a room and saw a girl lying on the bed. She is sleeping with different electrical cord attached on her body. There is a monitor for the heart beat and an oxygen tube under her nose. She's wearing a bandana so it won't show the lost hairs from the chemotherapy I stand in the corner watching Louise fixing her sister's hair. 

"Hey, how are you feeling?" Louise kissed her sister's forehead.

"Lou, hi! I'm feeling okay." Her weak voice greeted otherwise.

"That's much better to hear than nothing at all. Here I brought you a new Sudoku puzzles." Louise waved three booklets.

"Thanks! Wait, it's only 1015 aren't you supposed to be in the office until 1700?" She knitted her eyebrows.

"Don't worry, my work is not jeopardized actually I'm with my Boss and she wants to meet you." Louise initiate the introduction.

"Oh, hi! I'm Lorraine. Sorry I can't extend my hand these wires are all over me." She smiled at me.

"Hi, I'm Mina. Don't worry about it I totally understand. It's my pleasure to finally meet you Louise talks about you a lot." I smiled genuinely.

"Hope it's all good and not the usual complains she hears when visiting me." She looked at Lou.

"Of course I'm not a good sister if I did that! How can you think of me that way?" Louise defended herself.

"You used to fret how strict and horrible her Boss is but I don't see Mina being that person you described." She mocked her in front of me.

"Lorry!" Louise scolded her sister while her face is red.

"Really? What else she told you about me?" I showed my playful side.

"She said and I quote --- that woman is so mean, heartless, presumptuous..." She began when Louise cut her out.

"Lorraine, I swear I'll not visit you for a week! Do you want me to lose my job?" Louise gasped and covered her sister's mouth.

"That's really how people often describe me so I won't deny it." I confirmed her confession.

"Mina, I'm sorry for Lorraine's behaviour but in my defence it was before we started getting along." Louise ashamed tone.

"It's fine that was your observation and I respect that was so there's no pun intended you're still my secretary Lou." I assured with a smile.

"Thanks Mina." Lou smiled

"See, she's ki--nd... AHHHHH!! MY BONES!!" Lorraine suddenly yelped.

She started screaming and Louise started to panic and hurriedly presses the blue button for help. In an instant two nurses came in and insert something to her IV. Lorraine fall asleep within seconds after it hit her nerves.

"Nurse, what happened to my sister? Why did she scream? Why does her bones hurts?" Lou bombarded the nurses.

"I think its best you talk to her Doctor. Please wait for him so he can give rundown on your sister's condition." The nurse avoided her question.

"Louise, I would like to speak to you privately." The attending doctor appeared minutes later.

Since I don't want to interfere in their business I went outside and gave them the privacy but I couldn't help keep my ears not to listen. I found out she's going to stage three and needs stronger treatment such as radiation. It uses X-rays or other high-energy beams to damage leukaemia cells and stop their growth. It means Louise needs double salary or more to pay the necessary bills. I stopped listening after that and went to the cafeteria thinking of a solution. I decided to go back to their room after making sure the conversation is over.

"Lou, I hope you don't mind me prying but I heard some of the topics. Don't worry about the hospital bill I'll tap it." I grabbed her hand.

"But that is too much Mina you already gave me the raise for a normal employee can get." She declined.

"Take it or you will resign effectively today." I gave her no options to oppose.

"Of course I don't have any choice but to follow. I will take it but I don't know when I can pay you." She accepted with uncertainty.

"All you have to do is handle the Company while I'm gone. Postpone the latter clients that will ask for a meeting lastly, update me with the development and the contractors." I instructed her slowly.

"I guess you take up my advised." She guessed right.

"Yes and when I come back I have the answers to your request as well." I began to stand up.

"Thanks so much Mina. Good luck and I hope you'll succeed too." She hugged and guides me to the door.

"I will contact you immediately. Lorraine needs you so stay strong for her. Be safe." My last words before going to the fire exit and orbed.

In seconds I'm in my chamber thinking of two goals one, find a cure or a vampire that can heal Lorraine if not then it's the last resort. I just need to be sure there's a chance for her to survive the transformation. Second, restore the part of my memory about my past life and find out what this betrayal is all about. They must have done something big for me to forget them like that.

"Are you okay my sweets?" Cedrik showed up suddenly.

"Does a vampire can heal sickness generally speaking?" I asked right away.

"My sweets we are immune with it why did you abruptly ask that?" He pecked my lips.

"Nothing, it only crossed my mind since my memory was lost maybe it can help me. That way I don't need to gamble the Barren with our prisoners." I tried to act dishevelled.

Since I know Cedrik can read my body language I'm already two steps ahead of him. I don't know why I'm doing but it became a habit of mine.

"About that, did you agree with the ludicrous deal? Margo told me she overheard their plan of escaping the Dungeon. I think she's right it might be their ploy." Cedrik added.

"Could be I'm not taking that part out I already made a plan just need to think it over again then I'll make my decision in three days." I stood up from the couch.

"Come let's get you to rest I see your exhausted my sweets." He guided me to the bed.

I tried to relax but even Cedrik can't help me it's definitely a lot of thinking to do.
