Skinny dark long jeans, cute laced beige top, low black ballerina, long curly natural hair… Jasmine Wolfe was ready for her last day of her senior year. After fifteen years of studying this was finally going to be over, and she would start a new life in college leaving all of her past behind. It wasn’t as if her life used to be that much of an action full one, however she longed for adventure and hearing it from older people she was more than sure she was going to find it six months later.
The huge gate of school was open, and she could see students gathering around in the same old small groups, the nerds, the cool people, the Goths… her eyes drifted to the nearest tree and she could see her girls gossiping.
“There she is!” Ashley shouted in her squeaky voice and gestured for her to come closer. Jasmine sighed not really up for talking. She has been this way for a week now, ignoring her friends and kind of wrapped up in her own world.
“Hey guys” She waved her hand and sat on the grass fake tapping on her phone.
“So we were just talking about prom tomorrow” Veronica flipped her blond hair to the side and smiled mischievously.
“Don’t tell me you’re going with Todd again” Quinn threw the ripped out grass in her friend’s face laughing.
“Well, he apologized and I mean why not, I’m not going alone there” she stared at Jasmine and shut herself up immediately realizing what was wrong in this whole situation.
“Did you hear about Darren?” Ashley gently touched her hand and stared into her dark eyes fearfully.
“No… he’s been off for a week now, and he’s not even answering his damn phone” Jasmine toggled the screen and pressed on her boyfriend’s contact name. Dialing again wouldn’t hurt… it wouldn’t make her look like a too clingy girlfriend but rather a concerned one.
No answer.
“Do you think he… he is… you know… because he disappeared and such…” Veronica scratched the back of her neck uncomfortably. When she saw the girls’ death stares she curled up into a ball and decided to go mute.
“Darren would never cheat on me. I called his parents and they have no idea where he is too… Although he sent me a message three days ago.”
“Why didn’t you tell us?!” Quinn’s voice rose to an octave as she ripped more grass into her hands.
“Uh… because I was too tired to talk to anyone? Either way, he said he’ll see me at prom whatever. I’m not here to talk about him, I just bought the most marvelous dress ever.” Amongst the things Jasmine used to excel in, was faking happiness in her most shitty times. It didn’t do her any good, except sparing her stupid meaningless questions.
“I can’t wait for us to smack those bitches when we get there. We’ll stand out I can tell” Ashley pursed her lips and ended up failing to attempt in imitating high school sluts.
“Well for what I know, if I don’t find a date, I’ll be happy to snog Harry styles.” Quinn widened her eyes and looked around to see the girls staring back at her.
“Who’s Harry Styles?” Jasmine asked putting her phone away realizing how inappropriate she has been acting.
“Only like the hottest guy I’ve ever seen” She replied a bit taken aback by her friend’s ignorance.
“I’ve never heard of him either” Veronica decided to join the conversation again the moment she heard there was a hot guy involved.
“Well” Quinn grinned “He has been homeschooled since he was a kid, never talks to anyone, and is like this hot mysterious guy, but they say if someone pisses him off, it’s his end. Which makes him even hotter. And now he has to graduate so he’s coming to sign up and watch the last course with us and go to prom.”
