~~~Lead away by imperfect imposters~~~
You sighed as you got out of the car, leaning against the doorframe to the Lucky Cat Café as Cass dragged her two nephews by their ears.
"I've tried my best to raise you two! Do I know anything about parenting? No!" Cass rambled. "Should I have bought a book? Probably!" Cass ran her hands through her hair, trying to relieve some of her stress. "Where was I going with this? I had a direction..."
"We're sorry," Tadashi apologized sheepishly.
"We love you Aunt Cass," Hiro added, smiling sweetly.
Cass scowled at them for a second, then her features softened. "I love you guys too. Now I hope you realize that I had to close up early for you!" There she goes again, picking up a donut and taking a bite. "See? Stress eating!"
You giggled, then tapped Tadashi's shoulder. He spun around, surprised. "Hey, uh, sorry for having to ask you to bail us out," he apologizes.
"It's fine. Hey, I'm going back to the Institute," you said. "See you tomorrow."
Tadashi leaned down and kissed your forehead sweetly, making you blush. "If I have my way, I'll be back over there in a bit. Wait up for me there, okay?" He asked. You nodded, more than a little curious.
You bid the other Hamadas farewell and set out, hopping onto the passing trolley as you made your way back to the labs.
You were sitting in your desk chair, sifting through search results for the proteins you needed. Suddenly, you heard a commotion from the workspace outside your shared lab. Well, a commotion that was different than normal.
You got up and peered outside the doorway of the lab to see Hiro and Tadashi making their way through all the science projects your classmates were working on. When you saw them, Honey Lemon had grabbed Hiro to show him her crazy chemistry bubble. She was so proud of that chemical-metal embrittlement project; you remembered that the day she finally got it to work, you all went out for ice cream at a downtown ice cream parlor. You sighed lightly at the happy memory, but were startled out of your daydream by Tadashi.
"Hey, (Y/N)! Glad to know you made it back safely," Tadashi said, gently putting a hand on your shoulder. You appreciated his concern, and smiled at his touch. A plan started to form on your mind as you took in the fact that Hiro had never visited his brother's lab before. You glanced at Tadashi, an imperceptible nod coming from him.
"Yep! Hey Hiro, wanna see something awesome?" You asked, winking mischievously. You pulled him into the room by his hoodie and tossed Tadashi a roll of duct tape.
"Sick out your arm," Tadashi commanded.
"Whoa, hate to break it to you bro, but," Hiro sighed dramatically, "duct tape's already been invented."
"Just do it."
"Fine," Hiro conceded. He stuck out his arm, and in seconds, Tadashi had smoothed a piece of tape to his arm and ripped it off. "OW!" Hiro yelled, rubbing his raw arm.
You heard the sound of something being inflated and turned to see Baymax coming out of his storage.
"Hello. I am Baymax, your personal healthcare companion," he said. "Scanning...you have a slight epidermal abrasion on your right forearm." Hiro's jaw nearly dropped to the floor, making you grin.
"Woah!" He oohed and aahed. "Is this what you guys have been working nonstop on?" Tadashi chuckled.
"See this?" He asked, pushing the little compartment on Baymax's chest, revealing the little green chip. "This has over four thousand medical procedures coded onto it, all by our lovely (Y/N)." You blushed as your boyfriend and his little brother babbled on about the invention.
"This is incredible!" Hiro exclaimed. You smiled.
"Yeah, maybe someday, you can create something even better," you said, plopping down in your chair. "Ever think about studying here?"
"Nah, I've got my...my, uh, bot fighting career to worry about," Hiro stammered out, scratching the back of his head nervously. For the first time, you noticed the little robot in his hand. You recognized the magnets that held it together, giving it a great about of flexibility and sturdiness.
"Must be easy to win with that thing, huh?" You asked, pointing at it. Hiro nodded. "Well, we here at SFIT don't like easy. We like a challenge," you said, twirling back to your desk in your chair.
Hiro was left to stare at the back of it, plans swimming in his head. He could practically feel the gears turning in his head. Then, it all clicked.
He had to go to school here, or else he would lose his mind.
BONUS:
You exchanged a glance with Tadashi as Hiro walked out of the room, eyes foggy from thought. "I can't believe that worked."
Tadashi grinned back at you. "I guess we really are like his parents," he chuckled.
"Nice job, 'dad'."
"Not so bad yourself, 'mom'."
