~~~TRUTH BE TOLD, I NEVER WAS YOURS~~~
Things were starting to look up.
Every day, you got up at 4 a.m., got ready for the day, packed a meager lunch (does it look like you had the spending money for eating out every day?), and ran outside just in time to grab a trolley headed to SFIT. You had decided you didn't want to use your parents' car to drive to school every day; parking was unendurable. Besides, holding onto the rail and leaning out over the street, although dangerous, made you feel...heroic. It was exhilarating.
When you got to school at 5 a.m., Honey Lemon would be waiting for you by the front entrance with two cups of yogurt and packets of granola for breakfast. That girl was a saint. Then, you'd go up to your lab, sit down at your desk, and pull up Medi's programming. Sometimes, when Tadashi wasn't there in the mornings, you pulled up your research on your...'independent' project, which right now consisted of researching the molecular makeup of the proteins in lizards, specifically those of their tails.
Then, when Tadashi got there, you'd touch base and discuss what work needed to be done on Medi for the day. You'd then do what coding was needed for the day, breaking at 2:00 for lunch. Since you were on a special scholarship program, you only went to one class—Advanced Biology at 3:00. After that, you swung back by the labs to work for a few more hours, sometimes deciding to stay the night if the coding was particularly tricky. Sometimes Tadashi stayed with you, working on mechanical components. You liked those nights the best.
It just so happened that tonight was one of those nights.
"Yo can you toss me the blue-handled wrench?" Tadashi called out from across the room. Barely looking away from your screen, you grabbed the wrench in question and threw it at him. You heard a clang from behind you. "OW! (Y/N), I didn't mean literally!" Tadashi exclaimed. You immediately spun around in your chair, scared you'd see him bleeding all over the place.
"Tadashi, oh my gosh, are you okay?" you questioned anxiously, getting up and scurrying over to him. He was clutching his stomach with one hand and the wrench with the other.
"I *gasp* I think I'm fine," Tadashi wheezed out, "just knocked the wind outta me." You sighed in relief. "No more throwing tools like ninja stars, okay?"
You laughed. "No promises," you said, waltzing back to your chair.
"How's it coming along?" you heard him ask from across the room.
"Fine. Basics of movement are almost done, and I think the other medical assessments are about halfway," you answered, not even glancing at him. "Wanna test him out?"
"Sure, why not?" Tadashi said. You inserted a green chip about the size of your palm into the side of your computer, and then asked Tadashi about his family while you waited for the info to transfer. "Yeah, they're doing fine. Hiro's been getting into more trouble recently, though," Tadashi replied worriedly.
"That's a dangerous business," you replied. "Luckily, he's got Medi if anything were to happen," you said with a chipper tone, hoping to lighten the mood as you swiped the info-loaded chip from your computer.
"Yeah, about that..." Tadashi said, running a hand through his sleek, dark hair, nervously gripping the back of his neck. "I haven't told Hiro about him yet. I want it to be a surprise. Y'know, maybe get him more motivated," Tadashi sighed. "He's just got so much knowledge and potential in him. He can't just waste it!" You looked at him sympathetically.
"I know what you mean," you replied. There was a beat of heavy silence. "Heh, it's almost like we're his parents, talking about him like this," you laughed, getting up from your chair. "So much potential, blah blah blah," you mocked in a deep voice, making Tadashi laugh.
"Hey! I do not sound like that!" Tadashi protested, just making you laugh even harder. "C'mon, let's test this thing out." He took the chip from you and gingerly placed it in a receptacle on Medi's chest. His round eyes opened up, two black dots on a white face.
"Hmm," Tadashi said, standing next to you from a distance, "he's not saying anything. He's almost...creepy like this."
"Yeah," you nodded in agreement, "We should add some dialogue. I know a guy."
"And...I don't know if it's just me, but I don't think 'Medi' is a great name. It just...doesn't feel right," you replied thoughtfully. Tadashi brushed his hair out of his face—you had learned that he messed with his hair when he was thinking. It was cute.
"How about 'Medical Bay Maximum'?" He suggested. You laughed.
"That sounds like a tacky superhero," you responded, getting a chuckle out of him—you had also learned that Tadashi didn't 'giggle'; he full-on chuckled, like Santa Claus. It, too, was cute. You hated the fact you had become so much more aware of him; you didn't need a guy in your life right now, messing things up with drama...
"But Tadashi isn't like that!" a little part of your mind told you. "He's sweet and caring and he smells nice. Like bar soap and mechanical oil. And don't you even try to deny it!"
Ugh. You hated when your consciousness did that to you. Back to the present.
"Okay, what if we shorten it?" Tadashi asked. "What about...MediBayMaximum?"
"Nah, still too wordy," you contemplated. "Why don't we drop Medi completely, and end up with...Baymax."
"Baymax," Tadashi repeated, "I like it." He broke out into a smile. "Watch out, world, Baymax is comin' for ya!" he cheered. You loved when he was so happy. It was like he was the sun, the only bright thing in the world. You couldn't believe you had once disliked him with every fiber of your being, and now it was like the colors were dull if he wasn't around. You guess you were daydreaming, because you were totally unaware of your surroundings until he grabbed your shoulders and kissed you.
It was way different from the kiss he'd given you when he dropped you off the other night. That one had been soft and tentative. This one was rough, wild with excitement and passion, and lasted for just a second. For that glorious second, it was like your whole being was aflame.
Then you came back down to earth and saw Tadashi's dark eyes on your own, wide with happiness. And you broke out into a smile too.
~(*-*)~
Bonus:
"So, uh, we're having dinner at my house again tonight," Tadashi said, a blush dusting across his face. "Would you maybe...like to come over again?"
"I'd love to," you said, pressing your lips sweetly against his again. If Tadashi's face wasn't red before it certainly was now.
Daww this is cute. Is it wrong to fangirl over your own fanfiction? (~w~)
Hope you guys are doing well, and I hope you enjoyed the chapter! Until next time, Reader-chan!
