Amber's POV

(7 months after with Joe)

I squirmed as hard as I could to get away from everything until I gave up and just squeezed my eyes shut, waiting for the knife to pierce through my back and end my life but it never did. Instead, I heard gunshots fire above me.

I snapped my eyes open to find a very stunned Joe. He was staring at something that was past my line of sight. I then felt the weight on my back lift and disappear.

I scurried away towards Joe as he wrapped me in his arms tightly. I looked around and saw all them men before, dead. That was when I made eye contact with one of them; strangers.

"Please. Don't hurt her." Protested Joe as he moved back some, taking me with him.

"We're not gonna hurt you, sir. My name is Mariah. These are my people. We were just passing by when we heard people screaming. Came by to help." Joe said nothing to the women before us.

"Perhaps you have a camp?" She asked as she kneeled before us.

"No." Replied Joe as his grip around me tightened.

"Is there anyone else with you?"

"No. It's just her and I." The woman nodded and then looked at me.

"Joe, what are you doing?" I thought as my eyes bounced between her and Joe.

"Hey, sweetie." She said, followed by a smile. I just looked away. I didn't have a good feeling about her or the people she was with.

"Why don't you come back with us? We have a camp up a few miles." I heard Joe swallow and then look down at me slowly. I quickly shook my head.

"I think we will be alright on our own." He said, slowly standing up, still having a firm grip on me.

"Alright. Well then, we wish you both the best of luck. You might need it." With that said, she turned and left, followed by three others.
