Zoe's POV

I am sat in the living room.

My hands are ringing around each other at a million miles a minute.

My cheeks are stiff from all of the tears.

My skin is hot from all of the pacing.

My throat is burning from all of the yelling.

I am waiting.

....

"Oh, whatever Zoe. You just do whatever you want like you always do!"

"Stop saying that! I already promised I'd do this a while ago and this is the only date they can do it!"

"Oh so it doesn't matter that it's a special day for me? All that matters is that you have to get your picture taken? Is that how it is?!"

"No! You're overreacting Alfie!"

"No Zoe, you're being selfish, that's what's happening here!"

"Well-"

"No. You know what? Just forget it. I'm done. Don't follow me."

He picked up his keys and stormed out of the door.

I felt the nausea rise within me, my head began spinning. "Alfie?! Alfie what are you doing?!? Come back!"

The front door slammed shut.

"ALFIE!!!"

He was gone.

....

It's been two hours.

I called his phone 3 times before realising I could hear it ringing - he'd left it here.

I've been angry.

I've been mad.

I've been annoyed.

I've been patient.

I've been regretful.

I've been understanding.

But now, all I am is sad, and desperate. Sad that he might not come back, and desperate for him to be back in my arms.

Where the hell is he?

....

Three hours.

And then a click. A twist. An opening of a door. He's back.

I still sat there at first, just staring at the wall. Face still stiff, throat still sore, but then the shuffling of his feet in the hallway got my attention, and I was up like a rocket.

"Alfie?!" My voice was rough, it came out all quiet and scratchy, but I know he heard it, because his body froze.

He turned around, his shoes and coat off, his keys now down on the counter.

"Zoe" he breathed.

I suppose if this was a movie the two of us would run into each others arms and squeeze tight until everything was forgotten... But this isn't a movie. This is our real life... So we didn't, we just stood and stared at one another.

"I'm so sorry-"
"Sorry that I-"

We both stopped. We both stared. I looked to him first.

"I'm sorry Zo. I should have listened more. I know this is a really cool opportunity for you and there's no way I want to get in the way of that, so yeah it's crap that its on that particular day, but we can celebrate that another time. You go and do your shoot, and I will support you. I'm proud of you."
