I was shocked to say the least about who I was now looking at. I couldn't believe my eyes that I was looking at Rose. I studied her face to see how she was going to react to me but I saw no sign of her going to attack me to I pushed the barrel of the gun away from my face. I stepped forward going to embrace her in a hug but she backed away with every step that I took towards her. "Rose, how are you alive?" I asked still walking towards her determined to get closer to her. Her back hit the wall and she stopped and finally looked at me and that is when I took my first proper look at her.
Her face was pale white which made it easier to see the light purple veins that travelled through her face, I could see in her eyes that they were still the yellow blood shot colour they were when I last saw her. Her clothes had changed and she was set on hiding the bite she had. I looked at her neck remember that that is where I had stabbed her to get away from her, and saw a small thin line where a scar lay in place. How did she survive?
I voiced my thoughts and asked her to explain exactly what happened to her. Rose sighed and fell the floor pulling me down with her so that I was sitting in front of her as she started to speak. "Well I don't really remember much of what happened after I turned, it's sort of just a blank space in my mind that I'm missing. But I remember waking up, laying on the floor with a knife in my neck. I have no idea how I was still alive, but then it all came back to me. Where we were and what happened, but when I removed the knife and stood up there was no one there but a couple of stray zombies. I went to kill them but then realised that they weren't attacking me." She said obviously looking confused.
I knew how she was alive and I'm happy for her but I have left her as this half zombie half human, will she hate me for doing this to her? Would she be better off dead? "Rose, it was my blood that saved you." I said recalling that the knife that I in fact stabbed her with was the one that was embedded in my arm by Nicol. "Wait what?" she said in confusion, so I explain exactly what had happened to us over the period of time since we had left that tower block.
"I do want to know how you got here though Rose, are you with anyone?" I asked and with that question she seemed to remember something and rushed to her feet and ran upstairs. I looked behind me to see Wen's shocked face and Franks looking very confused, obviously not knowing who Rose was. "Stay put." I told them as I rushed to follow Rose up the stairs. Not that I didn't trust Rose, I just wanted to be sure so I pulled out my hand gun and held it tight as I pushed open the door that was still swinging shut from where Rose had just ran through it. The lights where on in here and the next thing I saw was Alisa and her wolf Rex laying there asleep. "Is that Alisa?" I said probably louder than I should and may have woken Rex up. He ran towards me obviously recognising me, I ran my hands through his long fur loving how it felt. Rose was shocked, "you know these guys?" she asked. "Yes, Alisa helped me and Wen with supplies and things before we went off to the lab." I stated walking over to where Alisa laid. "What's wrong with her?" I asked noticing the bandage wrapped around her leg.
"I found her like this, but she was passed out down an ally, I heard the dog whining and that's what caught my attention." I looked down to where Rex was sitting next to me wagging his tale. "I carried her here, and the dog followed and then I heard noise down stairs and I guess it was you." She gave a breathily laugh. "Give me a minute." I said to Rose as I walked out the door and back down stairs where I found Frank and Wen talking in hushed voices until they saw me there. "Come on, it's just Alisa up there and her wolf." I waved them towards me and walked back up the stairs again.
Rose was kneeling down next to Alisa, wetting a cloth with some water from the bottle that was sitting next to her and obviously cleaning her wounds. I watched as Wen and Frank sat their things in the opposite side of the room to where I was standing and sat down. I walked over and placed my backpack down as well and joined them, leaving Rose to tend to Alisa. Wen lent over towards me, "I can't believe she is alive." Looking over at rose as she said this, I turned around to look at her also. "I know, it's odd but I guess this is pure luck." I said turning back around to face a still very confused Frank. I smiled at him and explained how Rose has been my best friend since I can remember and that we were together when all of this happened.
I moved over into the corner of the room and decided to lie down and rest because we had been walking for a very long time and I needed to just stop and process everything for a moment. Rose was alive and I want to say I have no Idea how but I can't ignore the facts that my blood was obviously what saved her. It was what I always wished for so why is it this hard to accept. And Alisa being here too, I hope she chooses to stay with us this time because I think it will be better for all of us if we stick together now. But that's what makes me think because Alisa has left the safety of her home which means something must have happened because she was determined to not leave.
Once she's awake, I must ask what happened.
