I shot up from where I was laying in fear that what I had just witnessed was real; I looked around realising that we were in the basement of Alisa’s safe house. I started to calm my breathing as I saw Wen calmly sleeping beside me. I spotted Alisa walking through the hall to my right, "Hey." I shouted quietly, she turned and smiled at me, telling me to follow her.

I slowly stood up trying not to fall over Wen sleeping on the floor and limped my way over to where Alisa was standing waiting to help me get to where ever we were going. She grabbed my arm and hooked it over her shoulder so I could semi walk with her, "so where are we going?" I asked curiously. "Just wait, I have something to show you." I obeyed and continued to walk next to her as she led me down further into this place. We stopped in front a huge door that looked like it weighed a tone and started putting a code into the door. The door unlocked and opened with a loud click and slowly pushed itself open, Alisa led us into what looked like a torcher chamber with several cells lined up against the wall. I stopped and allowed Alisa to walk on as I panicked when I saw that the cells where not empty. Inside every one of the cell held mutilated dogs, that’s when I realised that they were infected.

I stepped away from them all, turning around to walk back out of the door that we came through but it was locked and I didn’t know the pin to unlock it. I spun back round to be faced with Alisa. I sucked in a sharp breath as she smiled at me. “Don’t worry, it’s perfectly safe. They can’t get out.” Perfectly safe! There right there and anything could happen. I watched Alisa walk down the middle of them towards the back of the room where a load of tables that held different note books and bits of paper were at. I slowly started walking towards her, preparing for anything. I looked at all the different paper laid out all over the table and realised that they were maps; different places were circled or had crosses through them.

I pointed towards an area that had a triangle on it, “what does this mean?” I looked up from the map to see Alisa looking at the part I was pointing at. “It’s where I stayed before the apocalypse; it’s kind of a reminder to never go back there.” She replied and I nodded in understanding. I went back to looking at the map and figured out that Alisa had circled a few places which were safe to go if you had enough weapons and crossed out all the places that were a no go, which meant that a lot of the map was covered in crosses. I searched for my parents lab and found that some areas around it had been circled but others were crossed out a couple of times, meaning there were probably a lot of dead there. This will make it even harder for me to get there, we will have to take the long way round which meant we wouldn’t be at any risk. Or we could take the dangerous path and be there within a day, I’ll have to talk to Wen about it later.

I asked the question I had been wondering since I walked into that room with Alisa, “why do you have dogs in here?” I looked up and saw Alisa standing in front of one of the cells that has a sign on it labelled ‘chance’.  “You see, Rex is a trained wolf. I thought I could do the same to other dogs and then I’d have my mini army if anything ever went wrong and I need help to fight off the zombies.” I nodded in understanding as she went on. “It worked for a while, I trained them. They fought and I’d bring them back here only to find out that had been bitten. I didn’t and still don’t have the heart to kill an animal, and so here we are with them all locked in these cells.” She held her arms out and spun in a circle, emphasising the room we were in.

I walked forward a little so I could read what was written on each cell. The names of them all, chance, Charlie, Lucy, Jess etc... There were all different types of breeds, it looks like she just picked what she could get and obviously the larger dogs would survive better anyways. I walked slowly up to Alisa and followed her back through the door and back to the room where Wen should still be sleeping.

Once I stepped into the room I saw Wen just about to stand up, with a panicked look on her face. She looked over my way and let out a breath of relief, “I started to worry when I woke up and realised you weren’t here, Melody don’t scare me like that.” I let out a little giggle, “Now would I leave you here Wen?” I asked putting my hands on my hips. She smiled, “No but doesn’t stop me from worrying.” She replied while giving me a knowing look.

Alisa broke the silence by clapping her hands together and saying “Well if you guys are hungry, follow me.” I looked up to Wen and she grabbed my arm to help me walk to another room which I presumed would be like a kitchen. We walked round the corner and into a room on our left; I saw that it was more like a sitting area with a small table and chairs in the middle of a room full of boxes.

Alisa left me and Wen to eat because she had already eaten before we woke up. I looked up at Wen and explained everything that I saw in that other room, going into more details about all the maps and how they could be useful. “We need to go down there and plan how we are going to get to my parents lab.” I said while standing motioning Wen to follow me. We walked down the hall towards the huge door and saw that it was already opened; meaning alias was inside there again. I pushed the heavy door opened and walked to the back of the room where Alisa was, with Wen following me.

“You guys might want to go round the long way, it’ll be safer but from what I have heard of your situation you need to get to that lab as fast as you can so you can see if your parents are still alive.” Alisa said pointing at one of the maps in which direction we should go. I looked up at Wen wanting her opinion of the situation, she shook her head. “We don’t have enough weapons and ammunition to go through the quicker way; we have no option but to go round the long way.” Wen said and I sighed. “I have more than enough ammo to share with you guys and you can take a couple of my weapons but not all of them because I still need them.” Alisa offered and I smiled, I hugged her. “Thank you; you don’t know how much this means to me. You can come with us if you want you know?”  I asked, already knowing the answer, I mean why would you leave a place like this just to follow some people that you just met.

“No thanks, take what you guys need and be on your way when you like, I’m sure I’ll see you again someday.” Alisa said while hugging us both and then leading us back to the main room with all the ammo and food in it. Wen and I filled our bags with all we needed and were ready to leave. I looked across the room to where Rex lay on the floor sleeping; I pulled my hands through his soft fur and whispered a goodbye. I walked through the long hallway towards the ladder that lead out and met Alisa at the end of it, I smiled “thanks again for all that you have done, we would be dead if you didn’t help us.” Alisa laughed, “It was nothing, and there aren’t many people around anymore so I might as well help who I can. Just don’t forget my face, we’ll see each other again melody.”

I turned to look behind me and faced Wen, “I guess we're off again.”
