I pretended to be asleep for a couple of hours, at least until I saw the full moon high in the sky. I rolled over and sat up, just in case anyone was still awake, I stretched and yawned as if I just woke up. I felt the cold breeze of the wind on the bare skin of my arms before I put my leather jacket back on, wincing at the pain in my shoulder as I moved. I looked around and saw everyone asleep, this didn't surprise me, none of them were actually smart enough to have a lookout for the night. I grabbed Wen's shoulder and shook it lightly, she awoke in shock plastered on her face. I was about to laugh at her reaction but found all the air pushed out of my lungs as I was held to the floor with two strong hands placed firmly on my throat.
I tried to speak but it came out as a squeak, I thrashed around and managed to flip Wen over so I was on top of her, holding her harms down at her waist. She looked into my eyes and it finally clicked in her head that it was me trying to wake her up, I smiled. It was kind of funny to see her react like that; I stood up and held my hand out for her to take. She grabbed it and I pulled her up.
I let out a small laugh when I looked around and saw that no one had actually woken up from me and Wen moving around, they were going to be screwed when it came to an attack during the night. It almost made me feel bad about leaving them but then again, when I first came to them with Nicol and Wen, I didn't plan on staying long. It was Rose who wanted us to stay because it was safe, and now she isn't here and we really don't have anywhere else to go.
I didn't really have anything on me but weapons so I guess we were going to have to find a safe place and then some food, I walked over to the edge of the building and looked at the streets below, there was the odd zombie here and there, nothing Wen and I couldn't handle. There was nothing to help us get down the side of the building so I used my imagination, and stepped over the edge onto a little ledge, I turned around and faced the building and Wen. She had a worried look on her face so I smiled in reassurance, and carefully bent down onto my knees. I continued to lower myself down as much as I could until I was hanging on the ledge, I knew this was going to be hard because I wasn't that tall. I wasn't small but I was definitely on the shorter side being at 5ft 7.
My feet hung a little way from the next edge of the window just below the one I was hanging from. Don't look down, don't look down, don't look down. I repeated this to myself, not that it did any use. This was the first little drop that I would have to make, I looked down and instantly regretted it but I had to know how long it was going to take to get to the ground. I counted about 9, great 10 floors up, that's a lot and um.. Not a good death if I made a mistake. Definitely made me feel better, NOT!
I took a deep breath and let go, my feet touched the next ledge within the next second of letting go and I smiled. That smile faded when I attempted to grab something to hold onto, anything! But my hands didn't find anything. I was falling backwards and fast. My heart literally stopped as I saw the dark sky above me, I also saw Wen's pain filled face. I let my arm fly around my head in an attempt to grab onto something but it was very hard to concentrate with the loud sound of the wind rushing in my ears.
I couldn't see properly or concentrate on anything because I was filled with panic, my hands touched something soft. This confused me but I took all of my strength and grabbed this mysterious material. I now held on to this material with all my strength, I looked around and saw that I was in fact holding onto a flag. I looked down and realised that I was still about 3 floors up, and there was nowhere to go but drop to the floor. My heart was beating so hard it's all I heard as I held onto the flag. I barely heard Wen shouting for me to hold on. "Melody stay there! I'm coming!" she shouted as I looked up towards her, she was climbing down the building with much more ease than I was because she was taller and it was easier for her to touch each ledge.
