Rose and I quickly had a small conversation about which way was the best route to take to my house and decided that the safety of the roofs was better and we were trained how to jump them as well, so that helped too. If I had my way I would get more protection for my knees and hands seen as they would be taking most of the impact of the jumping but we didn’t have time so I slipped on my fingerless gloves that I forgot were in my bag, they will have to do. And we were on our way; we couldn’t go to the roof straight away because we weren’t near any of the houses yet. We still had to go through the school to get onto the streets.
We walked to the back doors of the canteen and I pressed my ear against the door to see if I could hear anything that might be outside. There was silence. I grabbed the door handle and slowly pushed it open and peeked outside; looking left and right I saw nothing in the small side allay that ran down this side of the building. So I pushed the door open slowly in case it made any loud sounds, before I had the chance to walk out and have a proper look at our surroundings I was pushed out of the way by Rose. I let out a huff of breath as my back hit the door that was still moving open, trying to catch myself before I hit the floor seemed like it was the hardest thing I had ever tried to do. But just before my butt hit the floor Rose grabbed my hand and pulled me towards her, as I gained my balance again I noticed that Rose was laughing at me. ”Hey! It’s your fault that I nearly fell!” I said walking over to where she was standing. “Uhh... Sorry about that.” Rose said to me before she turned and looked behind her, lost in some sort of thought. What has gotten into her? Literally just a second ago she was laughing at me, I grabbed her hand and turned her around to face me. It was as if she was looking straight through me, as if I wasn’t there. I snapped my fingers in front of her face to try and get her attention; she blinked a few times and then looked at me. “What?” she said turning away from me and walking to my left, the way we needed to go to leave. What is going on? I’m so confused right now! Have I said something to her that upset her? “Rose, look at me.” She turned around to face me, I walked over to her and looked her in the eye. She went to pull back when I got close to her face but then stopped when I held her head still. I looked at her eyes , the whites of her eyes were yellowing and her pupils were so small I could barely see them. No! no no no no no no. why? How? When? I backed away from rose as all these thoughts rushed into my mind. Out of everyone why rose, she is the only family I have and when? Maybe when she was is the kitchen finding food? No, I would have heard that.
I didn’t want to accept that this was happening, the apocalypse has only just started and Rose is already doomed. Wait! She could just be ill, I could be worrying for nothing. I looked back at Rose, her face was all scrunched up, holding back tears. My heart sunk in my chest as she pulled up her sleeve to reveal a awfully infected looking scar on her arm, it was that swollen that you could only just make out the teeth marks on her arm. Not to mention the fact that all the way down her arm her veins were a purple colour and the skin around it looked as if it was bruised.
sorry this part was a little bit short :)
