 ☽ Chapter three

We  circled each other, daring for the other to make the first move. The pack was looped around us creating a ring. They waited in hush, curious as to who would win. I took a step forward and snarled; Felix narrowed his eyes and pawed at the ground with his left foot. I decided the wait was finally over and lunged.

He bolted to the side and in the split second I was regaining my balance he pounced onto me and I tumbled. He was about to charge at me but I stood and met him, my left paw about to swipe him across the face. But when I raised it he met it with his teeth, they dug into my wrist and I suppressed the whine in the back of my throat.  Felix was fighting dirty. It felt like a trap that a hunter would set for a deer in the woods, the slight step on it and it was triggered. Holding the animal’s leg in its rusted grasp till a hunter would come and put it out of its desperation.

The position we were in though left Felix’s neck open and exposed. I darted forward with my head and fastened onto the mussel there. Using his weight against him I flipped him to where he was on his backside. He bit down harder on my wrist and I moved to get a better hold to his throat. I tried to close off his air, so he would open his mouth and let go of my front leg.

I could feel his teeth go deeper into my wrist starting to dig into the bone. I couldn’t stop the small yelp that came out of me. I tried biting harder into his throat, not enough to cause blood but enough to stop air completely. But Felix heard my cry and his jaw tightened its hold waiting for me to give first.

Felix propeled to the right and tried knocking me down so I was on the ground. I heard a light choking sound from the back of his throat and he shoved harder, I felt my footing stumble and Felix was successful. In the process I lost my grip on his throat and it left me on my back, Felix above me.

His teeth still digging into me, I saw his muzzle wet with my blood; trickling of off his chin and landing onto me. I growled and used my left front paw to swipe across his face. It was a good hit too; I saw four lines of ruby glistening on the side of his face start to bleed. He snarled and let go of me finally. I leapt away from him immediately, wanting to get enough space from him.

We started circling again, me with a slight hobble; a trail of scarlet falling from me. His right eye closed at the blood that kept dripping into it. He pounced back trying to get his claws to leave a better wound on me. He resulted in small gashes but I was able to get away again.

I had to win this; it wasn’t just about the win itself. But it was about showing I wasn’t weak. If I lost to Felix, in his eyes I was weak. In all the other boys eyes I would be feeble. I couldn’t have that. I jumped forward and let my instincts completely override me.  It was like I had a switch, it would come out whenever it wanted and I had no control over it either.

I crouched low to the ground, and sprang. I went for his face. I tore and clawed, leaving him unable to perceive what I was going to do next with his eyes unable to open from all the blood. I swiped at his left side again. Leaving a slash by his ribs. He pawed at his face trying to clear the blood and backed away from me; He stumbled to his feet and jumped to get me. I moved to the side and he stumbled; from behind him I got a perfect angle to his neck. My jaw fit perfectly to the back of it. Ready to snap if I wanted. Felix collapsed underneath me, giving. From the corner of my eye I saw Carlisle part the ring of Lycan and stood next to me. He nodded at me and I stepped away from Felix.

Guess the sky isn’t blue, huh Felix? I said through the connection.

Guess not Ellington. Felix looked up in my direction and gave a small bow of his head. I returned it and left the ring. The others bent their heads vaguely, congratulating me as I passed. The pain from Felix’s bite was starting to really hurt. I sat in the back of the group licking the wound clean, I felt a little lightheaded while doing so.
