Chapter Eighteen
I sit on the wooden bench in mute anger. The goblet of strong mead set before me, my hood is still up, concealing my face and hiding away from the hoots and shouts and the obnoxious folk singing. My hands folded in my lap wanting to keep away from the grime of this place. I see theodore and his brother clink their glasses together, the amber elixer inside sloshing over its edges and landing on the table.
I hear the strong laugh of Mason next to me, watching as he slams his fist on the table after Bruno (one of the scouts) quietly exchanges a story with him. Bruno's slit eyes flick to me in amusment before he retreats away like he was never here to begin with. I watch without a word as a scantily clad woman in her late twenties maybe, straddels a much older man as he slips a few silver moons down her corset. I scrunch my nose in disgust.
A woman who has not a mate of her age, unless she is widowed is frowned uppon as a trollop in our villages pack. I bite the inside of my cheek. I wonder if i will ever find myself a mate, Philip maybe...But his parents would most likely expect an heir like himself to court with someone above my status. The mating cerimonies were always a very...Peculiar event, in my oppion. It was truly all of the males choice, alot of the time the female had little to no consent on the matter.
The Alpha of the pack, Lord Allistair, would announce the first choices of females. The ones who infact who had been picked more than once by males. These females would then have to watch as males pit against eachother, beastfully and with blood until a victor remains for that female. I have seen before seven males sign for a female. It was actually the Alistairs oldest, who was a female named Grace. She was a girl the spitting image of her mother a girl of few words, she rarley leaves the Alpha court though. I'm probably going to see her at Mrs. Alistairs name day in a few days.
My mind comes back to the present and i glance once more at the trollap, the mans hands are against her breasts. I wonder why she hadn't been chosen by a male, she seems more than willing to do anything, males in the village pack seem to enjoy that about a woman. I wonder if im included in that pack any longer now that carlisle has marked me the alpha female of the Glace pack. Not just any alpha female, Masons alpha female.
Masons mate.
The thought repulsed me.
I momentarily wondered if there was any way to kill myself at this moment, i surveyed the room with tierd eyes. Unless i went over the counter of the bar and stole the knife the owner was now using to cut a freshly killed deer, then no. My stomach clenched in hunger at the deer being hacked at across the bar. I hadnt eaten yet today. And majority of my nurishment from bed rest had been mere broth and bread. My inner wolfs jaws snapped impatiently but i quieted that part of me.
I felt a tingling stare set on me and i turned slowly to a pair of bright amber eyes, a color that reminded me of the alchol they were consuming. His expression was challenging yet content with his 'pack' around him.
"Take off your hood." it was an order and my jaw clenched as my wolfs will was gently pulled from it. I sighed and tried for a final attempt at keeping myself in control by stubbornly leaving my hood. "I want to see you eyes when i speak to you." the order was stronger now and with reluctant hands i let it fall. My dark hair spilling forwards. I clenched my hands back in my lap, absoultley hating the fact he could now do this to me. I set my mouth in a firm line and my eyes lowered feeling his satisfaction.
