Chapter  Fourteen

After Mason left me to change and struggle into my clothes he returned momentarily dressed in his own. I leant against the large tree, feeling sick as I felt the slow delicate blood spill from the back of my thigh. I grit my teeth ignoring the feeling as much as possible.

Ruok was above carefully watching, I warily glanced up. Spotting him through the spindly limbs of the bare trees above, sights trained on me.  I glanced away from the white orb above and noticed Mason. His face was tense; I assumed mine was as well.

I delicately pushed myself from the tree and with as much dignity as possible, which in fact wasn’t much I attempted to walk away. I placed down on my right leg and pain shot up and down my body, I bit my tongue on an intake of breath and continued on my way. I felt Mason’s narrowed eyes on me as I went, the pain was unbearable. I leveraged my weight against the tree nearest me and I let out a pant of breath.  An almost satisfied sound emerged from Mason.

I whipped my head to growl at him; I bared my teeth, my k-9 teeth switching to my lycan ones. Mason’s gaze tuned into mine and I lowered my head in grudging respect. I kept my gaze down as my hands were desperately clinging to the bark behind me to hold my weight. Mason stepped closer and my eyes flickered to him again angry. His white blond hair held to his face with sweat, he was dressed in his cloak and dark leather.

“What in the bloody eight realms do you want?” I snapped at him, my emotions on edge. I was filled to the brim with betrayal, guilt, confusion, and anger.  My eyes were sharply narrowed, but I didn’t bare my teeth again.

“So, you and my brother have taken a strong fondness to each other lately?” Mason quirked an eyebrow and a mischievous look graced his eyes like usual.  My eyes widened for a moment before I could keep them held in a glare.

“What’s it to you?” I spoke in a clipped manner, my patients running low and my temper high.

“Oh, nothing. I just think the elders might want to know.” The corner of Mason’s lip twitched in amusement.  I glared, he had no right.

“Well it appears that the tea pot is calling the kettle black?”I spat back at him. He smirked and drew closer.

“I don’t believe so Calypso, for I don’t have a sound relationship with my women.” My lips parted at his statement because it was true. He hadn’t been with a girl for more than a few days, at most. It only depended on how quickly the girl would give in to his charms. It was disgusting how he used them, and I personally didn’t understand their infatuation with him.

I would be lying if I said he wasn’t fit, or handsome. But what lay under the skin was more important. The fact that he was a vile disgraceful person couldn’t be overlooked in my book. He took another step in my lapse of silence and was about two feet in front of me. My fingers scraped into the bark, not enjoying the feeling of being cornered, and he knew it too.
