Her heart beat slowly to the beat of the drums. Each note, every cord, filling her with a suppressed distress. Music wasn't her escape, it was her reality. It painted the picture more vividly than she could with her own grey scale  imagination. She wept softly, not bothering to dry her eyes. Her pillow bore a small ashen stain from her mascara tears. She clung to her pillow, as it all came back -  in flashes. She didn't really know what was wrong, per say. It was more like everything.  It was more of who she was, than something she did. Who she was just didn't fit who she wanted to become, anymore. Recetly, her perfect life had been crumbling in her hands. After Will moved, she had felt alone again.  She didn't know how to handle herself. She had always been very dependant.  She yanked her earbuds out and rolled over, drifting into sleep. She really needed it. Shed been awake for the past 48 hours puking with food poisoning. Tomorrow shed go back.

She woke up and drifted thrugh her morimg routine. By the time she took her usual seat on the bus, she was feeling okay. Sam boarded.

"Hey," she said, "what's wrong?"

"Nothing."

"Are you sure?" She wasn't.

"Yeah," lies taste so sweet.

"Listen, Alice, I know you're not okay. That's okay. You don't have to be okay! Perseverance,  alice. Hang in there. "

"Thank you, Samantha. "

They stepped off the rusty machie that towed them. As she walked in she caught eye contact with Will. She stared for a second, but turned away. She couldnt handle the prolonged gaze. She drifted through the day and into history. As she took her seat she was greeted with shouts from the seat behind her.

"ALICE IS BACK!"

It was Desmond - an acquaintance.  He was one of the only people she tolerated.  He had an unhealthy infatuation with trains.

"Hey," she awkwardly did jazz hands.

"Where were you? Are you okay?"

She laughed at his concern, "I'm fine. I had food poisoning."
