Alice rolled over in her bed and saw a shadowy figure glistening outside her window. Foolishly, she climbed out of bed and walked over to it. She raised the glass to see Lucas smiling at her out in the winter cold. A breeze ruffled her curtains as the night air kissed her with frozen lips.
"Lucas..." she whispered. Her childish hope had taken over.
"Alice, I came back for you."
"Lucas!" She clasped her hands over her mouth, tears streaming down her face. She reached for his hand to pull him inside - in the warmth, but as soon as her fingers grazed his icy skin he was gone. She sat down.
"Must have been a dream," she sniffled, "people don't come back from cancer."
