Over break, when she wasn't crying, watching Parks and Recreation, or playing Guitar Hero Rocks the 80s' for 14hrs straight, Alice had had a consistent communication with Lucas. She was excited to see his face again, she finally sorted it all out in her head. If Desmond couldn't put down his model train long enough to look her in the eye, or at least answer her Facebook messages, she wasn't going to dwell on it. Will was out of the picture, and though Lucas is a prick sometimes, other times the entire cactus, she decided she could live with it. She was sharp enough herself. She remembered her favorite quote. 'A bird sitting on a branch is never afraid of the branch breaking, because her trust is not in the tree, but in her own wings.' She didn't care if Lucas might hurt her, she had to take the leap. She was treading on thin ice, she couldn't jump right in...She had to warm it up first. She finally got to school, and hugged Arise on contact. She was excited for socialization. She hated school breaks. She even hated summer break, she hated vacation all together; she needed school to keep her mind occupied. She needed something to do. Being at home reminded her how empty and lonely she was. She couldn't handle that. They waited for Bella to get there and ran off to breakfast. In social studies, Desmond talked to her for the first time since the incident.
"Have you gotten anything new down on the Titanic?"
She felt uneasy, her mind screamed, 'No i burned those pages, what are you doing?!' But all she said was, "No, not any more yet." And it was awkward. He nodded and sat down himself. All day she couldn't keep her mind off of Lucas. Everything seemed to come back to him. She hated this feeling, she was her own person. She didn't want to be so lifeless and dependent anymore, she was more than some pathetic fangirl...wasn't she? She stared emotionlessly into his silky white skin, tanned slightly by the sun, with a single, small, yet irritated coldsore above his lip. His hair stuck up in spots it wasn't supposed to, and she always debated in her mind whether it was dirty blonde or light brown, but regardless, it somehow always perfectly complimented his dark chocolate eyes. This was something she was sure of. She noticed that he only blinks every ten seconds, but when he did, it was slow, mildly dramatic. Almost like he's in a mascara commercial. Under her breath once she hummed, "maybe it's maybelene." Bella laughed, but he never noticed. Thank God.
