 Dear Jack,

I have to say, I am rather enjoying writing these letters- not as much as I love receiving them, though. I always seem to read your latest letter twice, write my reply, and then read yours again. I just love the idea that these letters are your outlet, completely unfiltered between your brain and the paper. I tend to plan my reply mentally whilst I read your letter, and then I edit as I write it.

I love these little meetings we’ve been having recently; sneaking off to hidden areas of school at break, ‘bumping into each other’ in the library at lunch, meeting up at the park and around town after school… There’s a sort of thrill to it all, but I’m not sure if that stems from all the sneaking around, or if it’s just because I get to see you. That sounded kinda weird. Sorry.

I’m really hoping that we can spend Saturday together- what do you think? A whole day of just you and me. Or you, me and Thea, if you would prefer? It would just be nice to get to see you for longer than half an hour, you know? My dad is going to a football game, so maybe you could come round? My brother might be home, though, which could be a problem. I’ll let you know. Well, you let me know what you think first, of course.

Thea was telling me today that you were in her work group during R.E class, but you didn’t speak at all, to anyone. You should speak to her, you know, she’s really nice and she’ll watch your back. I’ve already told her to keep an eye out for anyone causing you trouble.

The fact that you didn’t speak to her got me to thinking; why do you talk to me? What makes me stand out as approachable in comparison to everyone else? Let me know, I’d appreciate it.

                Love,
                Toby.
