Chapter Twenty-Two

Kathryn's POV

Finishing the last note, I pulled the microphone from my lips and grinned happily. Simon clapped slowly, standing from his chair in the empty room. "Nice job, girls," he stated, giving us a hint of a smile. "Take ten. Send the guys out here."

Nodding, I followed after the girls backstage. Running a hand through my hair, I tried to catch my breath as Alison asked, "How much longer is this soundcheck?" The girl had been impatient all day, and suddenly I became a bit curious.

"An hour.. Why?" Ariella asked, mirroring my thoughts.

"Niall and I are going shopping," Alison said simply, grinning. "I convinced him to go with me since you guys were busy."

I cocked an eyebrow, shaking my head in slight amusement. "You'll have plenty of time. Oh, and Ali," I added, "be nice to the poor boy and don't spend all his money."

Alison snorted in an amused way, putting a hand to her heart. "Me? Never." Giggling, she skipped towards her hair stylist. Probably to give her more tips.. Blinking, I watched until she disappeared before turning to the rest of the girls.

Audrey let out a groan as she fingered her hair. "I can't believe I still have glue in my hair. It's been a week!" she muttered, pulling out a small piece of dry glue. Trying not to smile, I let out a breath.

"I'm just suprised you haven't tried to prank Louis back yet," I stated, earning a nod from both Ariella and Isabelle.

Audrey suddenly had a smirk appear on her lips. "Oh, trust me; I'm just going over a few ideas. He's going to regret switching my shampoo with glue."

Rolling my eyes, I started to hear something before I felt to arms snake around my waist. Glancing up, I started grinning when I spotted Liam. "Hey, Li."

"Hi Katty," he greeted, using the nickname he gave me a few days ago. "You all did great, love."

"Thanks," I said, leaning back against his chest as he innocently kissed the top of my head. My eyes flying towards the other girls, I could see the guys had joined them as well. Isabelle and Harry had their arms wrapped around each other, which I'm not surprised to see. They can barely keep their hands to themselves. Ariella had been pulled into a conversation with Zayn, and Louis had a smirk on his face as he started talking with Audrey, who had an annoyed expression.

"Do you want to go to lunch after the sound check?" Liam suddenly asked, and I turned around in his arms to gaze up at him. The way he was looking at me made me blush just lightly.

I slowly nodded my head, my hazel eyes flickering around his face for just a moment. "Sure," I answered.

He grinned lightly, meeting my eyes with his. When that happened, everything seemed to stop. None of us moved even the slightest; it was as if we were stuck in a trance. The heat in my cheeks grew, and he moved one of his hands from my waist to brush his finger along my cheekbone.

We were stuck like this for what seemed like forever- or maybe just a few seconds- before I heard the vocal coach's voice. "C'mon, guys! Break is over!"

Something snapped, and I cleared my throat before pulling away. He looked equally embarassed, stuffing his hands in his pockets and sending me a sheepish smile. I returned it before looking at the ground and grabbing my microphone from my manager before hustling back onto the stage.

Ariella's POV

"Goodnight!" I called into the microphone, staring out into the invisible crowd with a grin on my face. Zayn stood at my side, his arm wrapped around me like my manager had required. He thought it would be better for the audience if we could make eye contact or phsyical contact as much as possible. No idea why, but I don't question him.
