Chapter 4; Edward.
"These files are about people trying to sell land to you out in the west. I made some notes to see which ones you wanted, and the price. And I could also get background checks on these people. And these papers need signing, I highlighted where you need to sign them. They're just about confirming about the acres you just bought.." She trailed off, and looked down at the papers. "Los Angeles." She finished off.
I nodded, handing the papers I had just signed back to her. I shot her a quick glance, and thanked her. She walked out of my office leaving me to my thoughts. It was barely 11 am. I looked through my emails and I found and interesting one.
The email was from Matthew Maine. I knew he was a big entrepreneurship with his wife, they were well known around the country and they did.. about everything. The email said he wanted to meet to see if he could borrow some land for some movie or something among like that. I chuckled, and responded to his email.
I told him to call my office and to set up an appointment with my assistant and that we will have time to talk about the issue. Once I sent the email, it clicked. I now knew where I had seen Isabelle before. She looked exactly like Mr. Maine's daughter, but that was impossible. I had met his daughter, briefly, and her name was Naomi. I shook the thought out of my head and went back to checking my emails.
My phone rang, and I picked it up while typing away on my computer. "Yes?" I said into the phone, I knew it was Ms. Waltz.
"Mr. Bass, there's a Rose Parker on line two for you." She said, and I heard her chewing on her lip. I cursed, this woman does not leave me alone. I chuckled, and rubbed my temples. "Tell her I'm in a meeting, please."
"Of course." I hung up the phone, knowing that Rose would be waiting at my apartment once I got home. Rose had been my girlfriend for three years, and we were engaged, until I found out she was cheating on me.
I broke off the engagement and told her I never wanted to see her again. I curse the day I met her. To distract me from Rose, I checked on the files that Ms. Waltz had brought in.
There was some good land I wanted so my workers could start building houses. I had to decide on one of the land, and I chose one from a man named Conrad Covey. I will have Ms. Waltz run a check on him.
After a few moments, my phone went off and I picked up. "Hello, Edward Bass." I said onto the phone. I heard the person clear their throats and they spoke up.
"Edward Bass. You're a hard man to get a hold of." The man said, I recognized the voice but I just didn't know whose it was.
"I'm sorry, who is this?" I said, as I ran a hand through my hair. This day was barely finished and I was ready to leave the office.
"Oh, come on. You're gonna tell me you don't remember me." Once he said that, it clicked and I broke into a grin.
"Zachary Abrams. Where have you disappeared to?" I said, as I shook my head laughing.
"Oh, good he remembers. Hey look, I'm in town for a few days and I was thinking if you wanted to work together?" He said, I could hear his breathing and I thought for a moment.
"Of course, man. Just let me know whe-" I was cut off my Ms. Waltz walking into my office, and she had a worried face on.
"Hey man, I'm gonna have to call you back. Just let me know when you have time." I said, once I hung up I looked at her and raised an eyebrow.
"Miss. Parker is here to see you, and she will not leave until she sees you. What should I say?" She said, she looked so innocent and I knew she had nothing to do with Rose, but I also knew she wouldn't leave, so I sighed. "Let her in." I said, rolling my eyes.
A few moments after, I heard the door close. "Nice too see you, Edward." She said, sitting down on the chair and crossing her legs. I cut right to the point, because I did not want her here. "What do you want?" I said, pretending to be busy on my computer.
Which I actually was, I was still checking some emails, and I was also checking my banking account. "Oh, don't be so grouchy. I need to talk to you." She said, I shot her a glance and she looked serious but I knew it wasn't because she was never serious.
"About?" I said, not really paying any attention to her. She took a deep breath before speaking. "I need help with something." She said, looking at me with pleading eyes.
I chuckled, I knew this day would come, so I shook my head. "Youre on your own, Barbie. Get out of here." I said, as I stood up and went to open the door for her. She looked offended which was what I wanted.
"Fine." She sighed out, obviously furious. She rolled her eyes and walked out my office. Once she was out, I walked out and went to Ms. Waltz desk. "Don't ever let her in again. You know what, call security and tell them to not let her in again." I said,
and once she nodded I walked back into my office sinking into my chair.
I still had review some files, and I had a presentation with some wealthy sellers about how we would use their land. I looked over the presentation on my computer to make sure I wasn't forgetting anything.
I looked down at my watch and it was 1 o'clock. I realized I was hungry, but I also knew I had to get this presentation perfect so I stayed through lunch and worked. And it was exhausting.
