Chapter 15

•Edward•

I only told her we couldn't do it again because it was the right thing to do. I couldn't be screwing my secretary. That was unprofessional. And I had to keep my company professional. My company was a lot more important right now. Even though I was dying to be with her.

It was weird. She drew me in. No one had ever done that. She was funny, kind, and not to mention beautiful. She invaded my mind 24/7 and sometimes, it was frustrating.

It was now Sunday. I would get to see her the next morning. I was actually kind of dreading it because I didn't know how things between us would be. But our relationship would now be strictly professional, no matter what happens.

I walked up the stairs of my house and to my bedroom. I was going to take a shower since I had just finished working out, and I was sweaty. I entered my bedroom and got my towel but before I touched the bathroom's doorknob, my phone rang. I turned around and walked towards my night table and picked up my phone up.

"Hello?" I said, I hadn't checked the caller ID. I heard her voice. It sounded like she was crying.

"Edward? I need your help. My best friend, Brianna, got into an accident and I didn't know who to call and her cousin won't answer the phone and I-" I nodded understandably even though she couldn't see me. I told her to take a breath, and she followed my orders.

"Okay. Do you want me to pick you up so you can go see her?" I said, I was worried that if she drove she would be the one to be in accident as well. "Because I don't think you should be driving in this state." I said, my voice coming out firm.

"Yes, please." Her small voice came from the phone and it cracked, I knew she was on the verge of losing it. I asked for her address before hanging up and took a deep breath. I changed into jeans and a tshirt before I left.

Once I got to her apartment building, I went in. There was no security or anything and anyone could waltz right in. Awful.

I went to the elevator and pressed the number 7. Her apartment number was 7B. While I waited for the elevator to stop, my mind shifted back to the events in California. The one where she gave herself away to me even though she was scared. I wanted her.

The elevator ringed and the doors open, I walked out and searched for her apartment. Before knocking I took a deep breath, and prepare myself for

what was to come. I knocked.

The door opened a second later to reveal a puffy red eyed Isabella, with messy hair and pajamas. When she saw who it was, she opened the door farther away and I walked in. I looked around and the apartment was very well organized and it was nice.

I faced her once she closed the door and took in her appearance. She still looked attractive as ever. "You need to shower before we leave, okay?" I said, as softly and gently as I could. She nodded, but didn't move. I didn't know what to do. I was kind of freaking out myself because I was in the same room with the girl that I was falling for. And she was my secretary, how cliche, right?

I took her in a hug, but she just stood there. She didn't even hug me back until I placed a kiss on her forehead, and that's when she lost it. She cried and cried. I knew she was scared because she was afraid to lose her best friend.

I led her to her bathroom and before letting her go, I spoke up. "Hey, everything is going to be fine, okay? Have faith. Just take a shower and get dressed so we can go and see your friend." This time she did do as I told her and I sighed. This was going to be a long night.

Thirty minutes later we were in my car and on the way to the hospital. Once we reached the hospital, I could feel Isabella getting even more nervous. It was normal, she was scared for her friend.

We walked in and up to the receptionist. "Hi, I'm looking for Brianna Bass." Isabella said, and my eyes instantly looked up. How? How did Isabella know her?

Was Brianna the one that Isabella roomed with? It couldn't be. I shook my head and told myself that it was another Brianna and that it was not her.

"Yes, let me look it up. Ahh, it says only family. Are you family?" The nurse said, Isabella nodded not even thinking about it. "Yeah, she's my sister." She said. It was kind of shocking how much Isabella cared for Brianna. Because the Brianna I remember was never like that. She was selfish and never liked anyone. I truly hoped it wasn't who I thought it was.

The nurse smiled and gave us her room number. 324. Third floor. That means I had about a minute to get myself back to normal and to just be there for Isabella. We walked towards the elevator and once inside Isabella pressed the number 3 on the wall. I was nervous, I didn't know what I would do if it was her. I truly hoped it wasn't.

When we reached her room, I was having a minor heart attack. Something inside me knew that it was her, but I wanted to deny it.

"Hey, she's gonna be okay, alright? Just go in there." I said, and I rested my hand in her lower back. She nodded and took a deep breath before walking in. We walked in and my eyes roamed the room and then I looked down to see the girl lying in the hospital bed. It was her.

And she was awake.

"What is he doing here!?"
