Since some of you sem to be confused on who Naomi is, it's Isabella. She changed her name once she left her parents because she didn't want to be found. So Naomi = Isabella.
Chapter 24; Isabella.
The two people I didn't want to see were standing at Edward's door. Why? I sucked in a breath and spoke up, my voice shaky.
"Mr. and Mrs. Maine. Hello." I said, my voice breaking. They still had an effect on me. After so much time, they still could break me.
"Isabella, who's at the door?" I heard Edward's voice before I saw him. Next thing I knew he was standing next to me with an arm draped around my shoulder. He smiled down at me and looked up at the people at the door.
"Oh, shit. I completely forgot you guys were coming over. Do you mind if we reschedule?" He said, and I swallowed hoping that they would leave soon. They both nodded and it was she who spoke up.
"No of course not, I mean we see you have company. Thats okay." She said, Edward nodded and thanked them. Before they could leave, she looked at me. She knew who I was. She knew from the moment she saw me at Edward's office. She knew.
"I, uh, do you mind if I talk to her, Edward?" She said, and I looked up at Edward with pleading eyes that he would say no.
"Of course not. Excuse me," he murmured and i gave him my best death glare. He walked away from us and I was still paralyzed. I looked at them, trying to maintain my cool.
"Naomi, Naomi, Naomi." She said, hatred in her voice. I couldn't believe it. They were still the same people as before.
"Mother, Mother, Mother." I said, venom in my voice. Was it bad that I hated the woman who brought me into this world?
"I knew it was you from the moment I saw you at his office. Ha, what a lowlife you have become." She said, and I rolled my eyes. At least, I wasn't a cold hearted bitch like her.
"At least, I'm not heartless like you." I said, giving her my best cold smile. Before she could say anything I closed the door and leaned against it. Why did I just do that?
"I knew it." I heard Edward's voice, and I jumped up. He had heard that? Why did he have to hear that? Now I was gonna be forced to explain myself.
"Edward, I can explain." I said, he shook his head as he started to walk away from me. He had to at least let me explain. He was the one that chose to listen. Now he didn't want an explanation? Ugh this man will be the death of me.
"Save it. You could've told me." He said, hurt in his voice. I knew I should've but I couldn't.
"I could've yes, but you didn't have to listen to my conversation with them." I said, and he laughed. He had the nerve to laugh! How dare he.
"Isabella, or Naomi, whatever it is, I'm in my house. And I can do whatever i want when I'm in my house." He said, and i shrugged. It was still rude to listen to someone else conversation.
"You know from the first time I met you, I recognized you. I couldn't put it together until the day they showed up at my office that I realized you looked just like their daughter. But I thought it couldn't be since your 'parents' had died in a car crash, and stupid me had believe it." He said, and once again laughed. I shook my head. He didn't get it.
"Yet you could've asked. You never did. I would have told you, Edward. You didn't have to listen in to my conversation." I knew I should've been explaining but for now, I wanted to not think about my parents for a minute. I needed a breathe.
"Cut the crap, Isabella." He said, and i took a deep breath. I had to tell him. It was now or never.
"Sit. I'll tell you the story." He did as I said and sat on the couch. I sat next to him and opened my mouth a few times but nothing came out, i was speechless.
