Part 10: The Truth

Part 9 continued..

Manik's POV:
It took me a while to register what Alya had confessed to me. When I realized it I immediately pulled her away. I couldn't believe that Alya loved me after all this time. I thought we had ended our relationship on a good note. It had been almost 2 years since our break up and out of all these days she had to confess it today? Why? I was confused like hell. I had to know what was going on in her mind. But I also had to be sure I didn't hurt her. After all she was my best friend.
"Alyaa! What are you saying? Remember we broke up cos we both knew what we had was not love? Then all of a sudden what happened to you? Please. Don't lie. Please." I looked at her for the answer. She was hesitant at first but somehow I consoled her as I couldn't be harsh. It worked.
"Manik I know. I know we took that decision together. But today when I saw you so close to Nandini I felt really bad. We were together for 7 years dammit but not for once you looked at me that way. I don't know what happened. I couldn't take it and did this. Please don't be furious. I'm sorry."
Now it was clear why she did that. Poor Alya. She was right. In our 7 years of relationship I never looked at her or felt for her the way I did for Nandini. It was just a show off relationship. The world thought we were perfect but we both knew the reality. She was deprived of love. Her own brother was a jerk who was never there for her. I totally understood what she was going through. I had to clear it out without hurting her feelings. Even she knew what she felt was not love. I cupped her face in my palms and spoke calmly. "Alyaa! Sweetheart. It's okay. I know what you're going through. Believe me I used to feel the same. Your brother and my mother are of the same species. I know you feel lonely even when he's with you. People say that blood is above all. But in our case its not true. For us Fab 5 is our family. We live and breathe for each other. We all are broken and hence we complete each other. You will always be our priority no matter what. We love you best friend. And the thing about love. Well someday you fill find your Mr. Perfect who will love you selflessly. He will heal your every scar. Believe me because I have found that person. Yes it's Nandini. She makes me happy. After you 4 its only her who can make me smile. And the day you will find him you will be the happiest. Till then we are going to be your support. Fab 5 is forever. Nobody can deny you our love. So please understand. Don't complicate it okay?" I kissed her forehead to ensure her that I meant every word I said. She smiled. I knew she would understand. She just needed some assurance.
"You know what Manik. You're absolutely right. I love you but as my best friend. But when I saw you with Nandini I felt insecure that maybe I'll lose my best friend. I'm so sorry. This will never happen again. I'm so glad to have you. And I'm really happy you found her. Mukti told me how she fought for her. She's a good person."
I just smiled at her reply. I was so proud of my girl. My girl. Oh wait. Crap! I had left her in the washroom. I cursed myself as I ran out telling Alya to come down. I searched for her everywhere but she was missing. Just then Cabir came from behind and told me what I didn't want to hear
"Chali gayi voh bro."
My heart literally stopped beating for a second. Why? Why did she go?
"Kyyyuu? And tune use roka kyu nahi yaar?" I bursted at him even though it was not his fault.
"Calm down. I tried stopping her but she didn't listen. She seemed very upset yaar. She lied that she wasn't feeling well. Did something happen between you both?"

What? Why? Why was she upset? Did I hurt her? God! What might have happened? Thousand questions popped into my mind. I tried figuring it out. I couldn't digest the fact that she was upset. I would never want that. I calmed myself and thought. She was all happy till she went to the washroom so something might have happened after that. Shit. Oh shit. No no no! No she didn't. Yes she did! She might have heard Alya's confession. I was 100% sure she did. That's why she was so upset. I had to explain her everything. I couldn't lose her at any cost. I quickly fetched my car keys and drove to her place as fast as I could. I reached her house in a blink. Without thinking further I rang her door bell. A lady in her mid 40's opened the door. I immediately recognized her. She was her Chachi. Nandini had told me about her during our late night Chat.
"Ha kon chahiye?" She asked.
"Chachi I'm Manik. I'm Nandini's classmate and friend. I need to discuss something with her urgently." I lied because I desperately wanted to talk to her.
"Oho Aao na beta. Andar aao."
She was more cool and sweet than Nandini had described her. Because who would let a young guy come inside their house late at night who claimed to be their daughter's friend.
I screened her house which was very elegant and beautiful. It had a warmth which was missing from my house. My Nandini was really lucky.
"Voh apne kamre main hain. You can go up. It's the first room on the right side. And ha Manik kabhi kabhi relations main misunderstandings hote hain. Baat karne se sab thik ho jata hain." She winked at me at went into the kitchen. I was stunned. It was like as if she read my mind. "You're the best Chachi" I screamed high enough for her to listen but slow enough so not to disturb others. I rushed to her bedroom and stood outside the door. I took a deep breathe and opened it slowly. I peeped inside and scanned her room. It was beautiful just like her. And there she was. My girl. Sleeping peacefully,looking ethereal. Manik you can do it. I encouraged myself and tip toed towards her.
