"Hey, so how is Blake doing?" Jaye's message came across his screen as a surprise.
"Um, he's okay?"
"I was just asking."
"Funny because we all heard differently."
"Oh."
"What is it that you want Jaye?"
"I was just seeing if he was really okay."
"Why?"
"I miss him, talking to him, I regret ending things the way I did."
"The way you did, Oh by just not telling him at all and having him read it on Myspace."
"I get it Z, I'm a bitch."
"Sorry but yeah. If you're that concerned with him just talk to him."
"What if he doesn't want to talk to me?"
"Only one way to find out."
"I don't know what to say to him."
"Start simple with a Hi."
"I guess."
"It's worth a shot if you want to talk to him again and if you don't that's cool too. But don't fuck with him, not now."
"I understand."
Blake
Blake was spending his last few nights in the hospital which he was far too excited about. He wanted to get out and at least be back on the beach, see the water, smell the fresh salty air. He wanted to live while he could considering his latest news. He had been down on himself for a few days after hearing the news. Wondering why he lived through so much as a kid only to get taken out at such an early age as an adult. He was laying in the hospital bed looking out the window at the palm trees swaying in the gentle breeze when his phone went off.
"Hi." It was from Jaye.
He hadn't heard from her since she left him without a word of anything for another man. After talking mad shit about him to her friends and in front of her new man, what the fuck did she want with him now?
"Hi." He said back.
"How are you?"
"Fine."
"I heard about your accident and the cancer."
"I heard you heard. And I heard the rest of it."
"I figured you did."
"Yeah."
Zadan
"He doesn't want to talk to me, he's being short." Jaye said sighing.
"Give him time, think about it from his point of view and what just happened. Don't just give up."
"Okay."
Blake
"I'm sorry I said what I said, I was just upset from you not making it down."
"It's fine, I ain't worried about it."
"Did they say what kind of cancer?"
"Lung, not much else has been said yet. Got to heal up before they can do more testing shit."
"How bad are you hurt?"
"I'll live. Ha!" He laughed at the irony of his statement.
She ignored his comment and continued, "Blake how bad?"
"Does it matter?"
"Yes it does."
"Why?"
"Because I still care about you Blake."
"You showed that well Jaye. I'm fine. Few broken ribs road rash but nothing that can't heal over time."
"Can I see?"
"See what?"
"Your road rash?"
Blake took a picture of his face and sent it to her. "Happy? Believe it now?"
"That looks painful."
"Because it is."
She nodded unable to speak.
"How are you and what's his name?" Blake asked but didn't care.
"We ended."
"That was fast."
"He wasn't you."
"Yeah okay."
"He wasn't there for me in the two weeks that he was actually here with me like you were. I never felt as close to him like I felt with you and you were hundreds of miles away. I got my wisdom teeth out and he was supposed to be there to take care of me and he wasn't. I laid there in pain alone. He ignored my son and all he wanted to do was go out."
"That sucks. Sorry you were in pain and that's shit that he didn't spend time with your son."
"Yeah."
They were both quiet, each one reflecting on the moments that had passed between them.
"Blake I am really sorry for what I did to you, I know that might not mean much and I understand if you never want to hear from me again."
"Jaye its okay, I get it. But I gotta go, doctor are coming in to check on me."
"Can we talk later?"
"Yeah, sure."
"Bye."
Zadan
"I told you he would talk to you again."
"He talked more than I thought he would. I was expecting a big fuck you."
"He wouldn't do that no matter how pissed he was or hurt. He loved you, fell for you. It's weird but he still feels for you."
"Gee thanks."
He laughed, "That's not a bad thing, I'm just saying that once the boy loves, he loves hard and it's that way with hate too. Just give him time, he will come around and be the same sweet ass Blake you knew before."
"I hope so."
