A Blast from the Past
Blake was home, well Zadan's old house, but he was free to talk more. He would spend hours talking to Jaye on the phone. She loved every minute of it because she knew that for once in their relationship if she needed him he was really only a call away. It put less strains on them.
Blake had been enjoying the nice Florida weather when he got a call from an unknown number. Blake starred at his phone wondering if he should answer it. He did. "Hello?"
"Blake baby is that you?"
Blake's heart stopped. The voice took him back to when he was a child, locked away in his room scared and alone. The voice took him back to his fingers being smashed in a car door, his parents fighting as his fingers bled and dripped onto the grass. Visions of drugs everywhere spread out on the coffee table, the smell of stale smoke and alcohol filled his nostrils. Stained sheets with tears, blood and seaman. Blake's voice caught in his throat.
"Are you there?"
Blake cleared his throat and shook his head, "How did you get this number?"
"You're not the only smart one in the family son. How are you?"
"What do you want?"
"I can't check on my only son?"
"I haven't heard or seen you in over 15 years, what do you want?"
She was silent for a moment, her voice breaking just a little as she put on her waterworks, "I just missed you. I had heard you were dying of cancer."
"I'm not. I'm fine. Look I have to go now, I'll have to call you back later."
"Okay sweetie just call me when you can, we have lots to talk about."
Blake hung up the phone and sat there quietly for a long moment. For the first time in a long time Blake broke down, he couldn't take the thoughts that were going through his head, he couldn't take the smells and skin felt dirty. He sent Jaye a text telling her what had happened.
Jaye read the texts messages and instantly felt her blood start to boil. She could deal with a lot but the thought of Blake who was always so strong and never broke down actually upset and at a loss for words. Jaye knew bits and pieces of his past but he didn't share too much about his mother and father. She did know about what his dad let the others do to him but nothing of detail. She knew that Blake could possibly shut down from this. She didn't want that to happen to the love of her life. "Blake, Babyboy, you know when you are ready you can talk to me about anything, right? That I am here for you baby."
Blake nodded, "I just can't shake the shitty feeling I get from just a phone call."
Jaye nodded wanting to reach out and hug him to pull him close to her and hold onto him. She knew that she had to be his rock and there was nothing else she could do to take the thoughts away. This was something that he needed to work through on his own, she just couldn't and wouldn't let him forget that she was there for him when he was ready.
Blake stood up, "I need to go for a run...can I text you after, please?" He asked.
Jaye knew that Blake loved to run to clear his head. After his cancer had hit him he couldn't run and it killed him. Running was his way of clearing his head, he was always in a better mood after a good run. "Yeah baby of course, just let me know when you get back. I love you."
"I love you too babe. Text you soon." He said leaving his phone on the counter. He took off for the beach and started his run.
