I arrive at the Norman house hold very early the next day.  I don't know why.  Maybe I just want to see Jace again.  Ahh.  Jace was so cute last night.

Mrs. Norman answers as soon as I knock.  "Hello Rose."  I'm about to say hello back, but she starts talking again.  "I can't get him up.  I've tried everything, but nothing's worked.  Would you please try to wake him?"

"I'll do what I can, " I say smiling.  This is going to be fun.

I walk up the steps and into his room.  There he is.  Sleeping away like a baby.  First, I try the more subtle approach.  I lean over him and kiss him on the cheek.

He smiles but, pretends to still be asleep.

I sigh and yell in his ear,  " Wake up!"  He almost falls out of the bed.

I can't help it; I laugh.  The look he's giving me is priceless!

"Really?" He says when I stop laughing.  He is sitting up and running his fingers through his hair.

"What?"  I tilt my head to the side.  Kind of like a confused puppy.  I try to look as innocent as possible.

"Did you have to wake me like that?"  He slams his hands on the bed, teasingly mad.

"Hey, I gave you a chance to wake up the easy way.  It's not my fault you pretended to still be sleeping."  I put my hands on my hip and shrug.  " I wanted to be nice."

He raises his eyebrows at me.  "Oh yeah.  Like you would rather kiss me on the cheek.  I bet you would splash cold water on my head, if you could."

"Who says I can't?"  I smile and take a tiny step towards the door.

"You wouldn't." He pushes the covers off.

"Watch me."  I run to the door and have my hand on the knob when he catches up to me.  He's a lot faster than I am.  He puts his hand on my hand and laughs in my ear.  I try opening the door but, he stops me.

"Where do you think your going?" He whispers in my ear.

Suddenly, I can't breathe.  My heart is going to beat out of my chest.  I don't know whether it's the fact that he's so close to me, or from trying to get out the door.  Either way, I kinda like the feeling.  It must be because he's so close to me.  I barely ran three feet.  "To get ice water and dump it on your head."

"I don't think so."  He laughs shakily in my ear and it sends chills down my spine.  Good chills.

"And why is that?"

"Because you love me too much?"  That's how he says it.  Like a question.

"Eh... Try again."

He starts to fake cry.  "You don't love me?"

I pull my hand from the knob and turn to face him.  "Of course I do, baby.  I love you so much that I want to dump ice water on your mop of blondness."

"I don't think that makes sense..."  He scratches his head, generally confused.

"Love never makes sense."  I pat his shoulder.  "I'm gonna go get a glass of ice water, you get ready for work."  I turn and open the door.  "We have a big day ahead of us."

"Right."  Then, when he realizes what I said, he opens the door and yells, "Wait, did you say a glass of ICE water!?"  I'm already half way down the stairs.  He doesn't follow me, and I'm glad.  I am actually thirsty, and he actually needs to get ready.

I go into the kitchen to find Mr. Norman at the kitchen table eating cereal, and Mrs. Norman humming and washing the dishes.  She smiles when she sees me.

"Well, hello Rose.  Did you get Jace to wake up?"  She stops and dries her hands.

"Yeah, I did.  May I have a glass of water?"  I glance at the sink and look back at her.

"Sure, help yourself.  You don't need to ask, you practically live in this house.  I mean you did for a while when--"

I cut her off.  "Right.  Thanks."  I get the water and sit down.  I don't really want to think about what happened to my mother.  Things just started to feel normal, I don't need to be thinking about the past.

I finish my water just as Jace comes downstairs.  He sees me with the glass and freezes.  I smile and place the glass in the sink.  He takes a breathe of relief and continues towards us.

"Your up!"  Mr. Norman says as he finishes his cereal.

"Yeah, honey," Mrs. Norman jumps in.  "Rose told us she got him up."

"Yeah, and she blew up my ear drums," Jace says.

They all look at me waiting for me to tell what I did.  I just shrug.  "He chose the hard way."

They both laugh, while Jace yells at them to stop.  That it's not funny.  Even I giggle a little at his attempts.  When they quiet down a little Jace talks again.

"We should get going."

"Why?  Are you scared that Rose'll yell at you again?"  Jace's brother, Xander, says as he walks in.

Jace puts his head in his hands and sighs.  "What are you doing up?"

"I heard her yelling for you to get up.  I, for one, was in my room laughing hysterically."  He grabs a banana and sits beside me at the table.  Then, to me he says, "Nice job."  He gestures for me to fist bump him.  Jace gives me a disapproving look, but I fist bump him anyway.

Jace lets out a frustrated Ugh!  His face all red.  I don't know why, but I think his frustration's even cute.  Cut it out, I think.  That's so weird.  Then, through clenched teeth, he says, " We really do need to go if we want to be there on time."

"I agree," I say as Xander peels his banana, and takes a huge bite.

"Okay," Mrs Norman starts walking to the door.  "Lets go."

I walk out the door, and hear Xander yell, "Sure!  Just take all my entertainment!"

I smile and buckle up.
