-----------chapter 16-----------
*Katy POV*I suddenly felt sick, like my stomach was upset and I wanted to rush to the nearest washroom but Neil's eccentric eyes froze in my place. It felt as if there was nothing below my abdomen, no thighs, knees or feet...
His lips were moving in a slow motion while the cops were still working with the handcuffs making it look like everything was slowed down a ten times than the normal speed. I didn't realize what he said at first but later as if my brain had a repeater, his words rushed into my ears, "Katy, what's going on? Why is this happening? ciò che l' ho fatto? What have I blackmailed you?" Neil's questions settled an uneasy feeling in my stomach. A simple thought which could be a possibility made me shudder.
What if I'm wrong?
I seriously didn't want to think of the consequences if that was the case.
"I know, you are lying," I tried telling out confidently but my voice was filled with skepticism making one of the cops raise an eyebrow at me, non-verbally asking me 'are you kidding? Who are you trying to convince here? Us or yourself?'
I swallowed loudly. What if I was wrong? What if he wasn't Mr.X?
"Tom, ya have spare key, man? This key seems like it will break with next use," the officer named Shawn asked examining the key.
Sighing in agitation, Tom checked his pockets for a spare key and at last shook his head. Shawn now turned to Yong and raised his eyebrow. Yong narrowed his eyes into slit before taking out his wallet fishing for a tiny key before throwing it towards Shawn. My eyes bulged out after sighting the wallet! I had stopped breathing and my heart came to stop. I literally had to perform CPR upon myself making the three cops and Neil look at me as if I had grown another head.
Oh! God! Maybe I did make a mistake! A very big mistake! A same looking wallet could belong to many people, that didn't mean that every single one of them was Mr.X. I can't seriously use that as a proof, I don't have any other proof too! And seeing officer Yong holding an identical looking wallet, I felt the ground slide from under my feet.
Cold sweat broke through my skin as Tom asked, "you okay there, ma'am?"
I opened my mouth only to choke on my spit, recovering from my anxiety attack with the help of officers and Neil who helped me sit down and were kind enough to fetch me a glass of water. After emptying the glass half way, I took a deep breath. I was dead, I had dug my own grave and these kind and worried people here won't be so kind anymore after I speak. Yet I had to fix this before it turned unfixable, so I cleared my throat awkwardly and spoke, "officers, I-I'm sorry. I-I take back my c-complaint. I've seemed to have m-m-mistaken this ho-honorable man to be someone else. I-I th-thought only my blackmailer had that w-wallet but..."
I trailed off nervously. Wiping the sweat of my hands on my corduroy, I slowly looked up to see everyone looking at me dumbstruck. Yeah, I know, I know that I'm the craziest and the most idiotic person alive! Much bigger of an imbecile than Zoey herself. So please kill me, kill me now! Oh dear ground, have some mercy upon me and swallow me whole!
"you, filed a complaint, on the basis of a wallet?" officer Shawn questioned putting two and two together. I bobbed my head a little, or at least I thought I bobbed.
"I need to thank god that you didn't meet me before, else you would have got me arrested!" Yong exclaimed throwing his hands in the air dramatically.
