How I became Savannah Solo Part 1

Tuesday April 14th

Kelley and I got up at 8. We put on our bikinis with clothes over them and packed our towels and water. We left the hotel at 9:30 to go pick up Spencer. Spencer actually lived close to the beach where we were meeting the other girls. Spencer hopped into the back of the jeep and we met up with other girls at 10. The six of us went to the surf shop and rented the 6 paddle boards they had. 5 of the 6 boards were the same size but the last one was longer than the rest. Since I was the tallest I was stuck with the longer board. We picked out our paddles and went down to the beach. We set our stuff down and got out of our clothes before racing down to the water. We got on our boards and paddle out. As we went we talked.

                  

Me: So I know Spencer is 19 and Kelley is 24 and I am 16 so what about you girls.

Katie: I am 26

Allie: I am 24

Caroline: And I am 22

Me: So how did you all meet?

Caroline: Well I met everybody through school at some point

Katie: I met Caroline, Allie, and Kelley at Stanford and then I helped Spencer with surfing

Spencer: I met Carol first and then she introduced me to everybody else.

Me: oh that's cool

Kelley: Yeah I am glad they have stayed together without me.

Me: So do you guys play any sports?

Spencer: I surf.

Katie: I used to surf for school but now it is just for fun.

Caroline: I play tennis

Allie: I used to play soccer for school with Kelley but now I am just with a local club team.

Me: That's good that you all have something.

Spencer: So Savannah, Kelley has told us a little bit about you, we know you play soccer ad you are still in high school but what all do you do?

Me: Well for soccer I play for my high school, the U-20 National team and Seattle Reign. I also do cheer for my high school as well though.

Allie: Damn and you are only 16 what position are you for soccer and cheer?

Me: Forward and our point flyer

Carol: So why are you in California then?

Me: I have endorsement deals to do here and then I fly back to Seattle tomorrow.

Katie: So do you live in Seattle?

Me: No I have just been staying with Hope Solo. I actually live in Louisiana unfortunately.

Allie: That is a long way from here.

Me: Yeah I know

Spencer: So when do you fly back home to Louisiana?

Me: I'm not totally sure yet.

By the time we had finished talking it was 12 so we headed back to shore for lunch. We ate at the Blue Dog Cafe that was right on the beach. I had a ham and cheese sandwich with a tuna salad on the side. Kelley got the same thing but with a chicken salad instead of tuna. Everybody else had turkey and cheese with chips. Once we finished our lunch we walked back down to our spot on the beach. we sat down and some of the girls said they were going to lay and tan for a while. I said I was going for a run. Nobody wanted to join so I grabbed my phone, Nike Pros, and my powerbeats. I put on my Nike Pros and put in my headphones. I started my music and turned on my running app and took off down the beach. I ran 2 miles before turning to run back. I got back to the girls and sat next to Kelley all sweaty and out of breath.

                  

Kelley: 30 minutes how far did you run?

Me: uh 4 miles.

Kelley: Damn Baby Horse you can sprint and do distance. You really do fit your name.

Ali: That's faster than me and I run a lot.

Spencer: You were even running on sand

Me: Yeah my calves are feeling the burn

Carol: I bet they are

I saved the run to my phone and took off my sliders. We all spent the next couple of hours tanning and listening to the radio. It was 5 when we got up and packed our things. Kelley, Spencer and I went back to the jeep and climbed in.

                  

Me: Hey Spence, if you want and if Kelley's cool with it do you want to come eat dinner with us it's on me?

Kelley: It's fine with me.

Spencer: Yeah sure thanks. I just need to stop by my house and change.

Me: Of course we have to stop by the hotel as well and then we can go eat.

Spencer: Okay.

I drove to Spencer's house and she got out and went inside to change. She came back out in light wash skinny jeans and a red flannel. I drove us to the hotel and the 3 of us got out and went to the room. Kelley changed into white jeans and a grey jacket while I had dark wash jeans and a white t-shirt. We all had converse on. Kelley had grey, Spencer in red and I had on white. We got back into the jeep and went to Home restaurant. We parked and went in. We got a booth and sat down. We all ordered. Kelley had steak and a potato. Spencer got chicken and mashed potatoes and I got steak and mac and cheese.

Me: So Spencer are you going to college?

Spencer: Yes, I am going to Pepperdine University. I'm on break now but I surf for them.

Kelley: That's great are you on scholarship?

Spencer: Yeah I got a full scholarship through surfing and then I get 2,000 dollars quarterly for my GPA, so I am really just getting paid to go.

Me: Wow I didn't know you were so good at surfing.

Spencer: Yeah my dad taught me and then I would spend all of my free time surfing because it gave me a break from reality.

Me: That's me with soccer. I love how I can just get lost in it for hours.

Kelley: Well that is what makes you two so good. You both have the love and the passion for your sports and you put in so much extra time.

Spencer: When it's something you love it's easy.

Me: Yes it is.

I called for the check and handed over my card. I signed the check and the 3 of us got up and left. I dropped Spencer off at her house and when we said our goodbye she gave me her number.

Spencer: Any time you are in LA or in Malibu let me know and we could hang out.

Me: I will thank you.

                  

I drove back to the hotel and Kelley and I went to our room. We got ready for bed and then laid down.

Kelley: So are you ready for tomorrow?

Me: Yes I am. We get to do a photoshoot together why wouldn't I be?

Kelley: Good point Baby Horse.
