i let her go.

she left me on my choice.

no, i didn't want to break her heart like that, but what was i suppose to do? sure i love-loved her, but vanessa, she lured me in....again.

yet, i shouldn't feel sorrow, for this was my call to break up with her. maybe vanessa's too, but she's the one i love more.

"shawn, how are you and nina?" my mother asked as she shoves a spoonful of mash potatoes in her mouth, yet gracefully.

"oh, um, we broke up." i fumbled.

Aaliyah sank low in her seat, playing around with her food. she wouldn't look up at all.

"yeah? i thought you too were great together." my father chimes in placing his spoon down.

"why does it matter?" i growled staring down at the platter filled with food.

"three years seems a long committed time for kids your age." my mother answered.

"she- i-, i'll be in my room." i backed away from the table, standing up from my chair, stomping up the stairs.

once i reached my room, i collapsed on my bed with a growing headache. all of yesterday's scene replayed numerously in my head.

"i-m seeing vanessa."

"i know." she sighs looking down.

"what?"

"nothing. your with vanessa and you don't want to be with me anymore."

"wait, you knew and didn't say anything? how long have you known?" i questioned.

"it doesn't matter, i gotta go." she stood up trying to leave, but my strong hold refrained her from standing up.

"it does matter."

I forced myself to get up, banging my head, so the memory would fade.

stop thinking about her.

vanessa should only be on your mind.

i looked at myself in the mirror, staring at my red complexion. sadness and anger producing the  tint. as i was about to close my door, aaliyah's voice whispered through the dark hallway.

"i know why you broke up with nina, and just know, you're an idiot. you messed up big time." she huffs before entering her room.

how could i possibly mess up?
