i sat outside of nina's hospital room, waiting for nurses to signal that it's okay for me to come in. it's been five hours and forty-six minutes. i've been sitting here since 6:00 pm to 11:46, feeling guilty as i hear nina's abuelita sob every now and then, glancing at me.

the door clicked open and out came a female nurse. "who is nina love's legal guardian?" she asked looking between my family, nina's abuelita, and i.

"me." valentina calls. the nurse nods her head and steps aside for nina's abuelita to make her way through into the door.

"and who are you?" she asked.

"a family friend." my mother answers. she nods her head saying that only 1 visitor allowed in the room.

the nurse finally left and aaliyah scoot herself closer to me. "i miss nina, i wish i could've helped." aaliyah cried creating a wet stain on my sweat shirt.

an hour passed and abuelita came out and cocked her head towards the door looking at me. i stood up shakingly giving a polite thank you. once i entered the room, i gently closed the door and made my way over to nina's temporary bed.

her eyes looked in my direction widening. "s-shawn? w-what are you doing here?"

"nina, i-" i start but she cut me off.

"who brought me here, i was perfectly fine with leaving t-his w-world?" she croaked tears streaming down her flushed cheeks.

"you don't mean that." i sniffled.

"yes i do. i was so close to being happy, but now it's ruined." her lips trembled.

"why'd you cut yourself?" i asked taking a seat next to her, wiping the tears that flowed down my face.

"b-because you w-were gone. you promised me you'd never leave me. should've never said the word love because that means getting attached, which leads to me getting hurt. the day i saw you three years ago, head hanging low, tear stained cheeks, is exactly how i feel. i thought i could help you get over her and what she said, but i wasn't enough to provide your happiness, maybe not at all." she explained, her voice quieting in the end.

"i'm s-sorry." i cried though i knew those words were like putting a bandage on a broken window; useless.

"why are you here, i-isn't v-anessa getting w-worried?"

"because i now realized how stupid i was, and i-I love you." i looked at her. red glossy eyes, blotchy cheeks, sitting on a bed, knowing this is all my fault.
