Third Person

years have passed since shawn and nina's devastating departure, both seeming to move on just not as quickly as they thought.

shawn's career as a musician was so successful he won four grammys over the past five years. he even got a baby boy in the process.

at age 21, shawn drank too heavily on his birthday that he and a bartender got too touchy, resulting in getting the eighteen year old girl pregnant. since the young girl didn't want the responsibility of the little human growing inside of her for nine months, shawn took in full custody of his child. it was hard to take care of the child while being on tour because the worry of leaving his infant for nearly three months grew bigger. But him and his little tyke made a wonderful bond through the three years they spent together.

now as for nina, she too had a child of her own. yes, i know what your thinking? who's the father? her husband, who was in the army. sadly, he died as a hero in battle never getting a glimpse at his baby girl.

poor nina was hysterical, crying for months wishing he was still there, but alas it was no use. so, she moved back home to her abuelita and father using all the help she can get.

three years later, her wonderful girl had the most bubbly personality and kindness anyone could ever have.

now of course, both children needed education and it seemed they both were enrolled in the same preschool. oh, how i just love coincidences.

"mommy, mommy! i made a fweind today!" nina's little one exclaimed jumping up and down.

"oh really, can i meet him?" nina chimed in at her baby girl's excitement. jane nodded her head quite fast and pulled her mother to the sand box where a little pale brunette boy was playing in.

"mommy, that's him! his name is jax!" jane told running over to him. chuckling, nina sat down on the bench next to a man in sunglasses.

"uh, is he yours? if so he's really cute." nina complimented the boy to the stranger.

"yeah he is. I'm sorry you sound really fami-" shawn started, but soon stopped at the sight of nina.

"n-nina." shawn stuttered absolutely shocked. i mean he hasn't seen her for five years.

"shawn?" nina joined in. both were speechless. neither said a word, but look at
each other in astonishment.

"uh, hi! how ya been?" nina asked truly amazed that they crossed paths after five years.

"i've been great and you? i see you got a wedding ring on. so tell me who's the lucky fella?" shawn answered truthfully, but little did he know that the lucky fella was no longer with them.

"Oh, h-he died serving in the army." nina answered trying not to break down. shawn could see the hurt in her eyes, so out of habit, he embraced her frail body stroking her long soft hair.

"it's okay." he cooed as nina continued to sob into his shoulder. she felt comforted, she felt safe in his arms. finally nina sat up from shawn's comforting hold and wiped away her tears.

"i'm sorry. i didn't mean to break down like that." she apologized chuckling a bit.

shaking his head, shawn knew how it felt to lose someone that meant everything to you. he knew what it felt to be heartbroken. "nina, you have nothing to be sorry about. i know how it feels to lose someone you loved dearly."

"really, what happened?" she curiously asked. "was it jax's mother?"

"no, the girl that slipped out of my finger tips is sitting right in f-front of me." he confessed, making his heart beat rapidly. it's been five years and he still gets nervous confessing his love to her.

"i-i" she started obviously not prepared to answer back.

"i'm sorry. that was selfish of me, you're still mourning about your husband and i decided to talk about my mistakes. i'm sorry." he apologized feeling bad about himself now.

"no, no. it's fine. i just don't know what to say." nina sighed. soon two little legs came screaming at each parent.

"mommy!" jane called.

"daddy!" jax recited to his father.

"what is it?" both shawn and nina answered to their little ones.

"can jax and i have a play date everyday, please mommy?"

"yeah pwease?" jax asked his father tugging onto his sweater.

"it depends. will both of you do your homework?" nina asked cocking an eyebrow up at the pleading children. both nodded their head and ms. love sighed in defeat at their cuteness.

"fine, but what about you mr.mendes?" nina turned over to shawn, making jane and jax turn their heads also.

"i guess so." shawn chuckled placing jax onto his lap.

"yay!" the children cheered in unison hugging one another whilst kissing their parent on the cheek.

"alright, it's time to go. my place at twelve tomorrow?" shawn suggested toward the girls standing up.

"yeah, tomorrow." nina smiled. they both went their ways placing their children in their car seat thinking of each other as they do.
