When I woke up I couldn't exactly remember what happened last night. I looked to my left and stiffened as I saw Jasper's face. I relaxed once the events of the previous day came flooding back to me. Smiling slightly I realized this is the first time I've seen him completely at peace for once. My hand itched to brush away a piece of his dark hair out of his eyes. On instinct I did, without even knowing what I was doing until his deep green eyes fluttered open. He froze for a second then gave me a lopsided half-awake smile that showed a dimple on his left cheek. I laughed a little then poked it. He gave me a weird look.
"You have a dimple." I said in a 'duh' tone, making his smile grow. He chuckled before slapping my hand away.
"You're weird you know that." He asked, still grinning.
"Yup." I said popping the 'p' and nodding. He shook his head.
I jumped as my phone rang before picking it up.
"hello?" I answered.
"Hi honey," my mom's cheerful voice replied, "me and your father wanted to let you know we won't be home for about a week because it's our anniversary tomorrow. Your brother's staying over Chad's so feel free to go over a friends or have someone over." She rushed.
"Why didn't you tell me yesterday?" I wondered, ignoring everything else.
"We, uh, kinda forgot until our coworkers brought it up." She said quietly.
I stifled a laugh, "You forgot?" I asked incredulously.
"Mayyybe, oh look at that! Plane's here gotta go bye." She yelled, making me pull the phone away from my ear.
"Love you too mom." I muttered before setting my phone back on my bedside table.
I jumped up out of bed, receiving a confused look from Jasper. "Fooood." I shouted, running down the stairs to the kitchen. I slipped on the smooth marble flooring. "OW!" I screamed. Within seconds Jasper was bolting into the room.
"Who, what, wher- why are you on the floor?" His frantic eyes and tone of voice quickly changed to amused ones.
I glared at him half-heartedly, "The floor seemed lonely so I decided to join it." I replied seriously. He raised an eyebrow and shook his head before stepping over me. I huffed and got up before walking the rest of the way to the cabinets to grab some cereal.
As we were eating Jasper suddenly swore.
"What?" I asked, confused.
"I got to go." He simply said before dashing out of the house. I heard his motorcycle start up. When did he get that back? I thought before realizing he probably left last night to pick it up. I sighed and rinsed out my bowl before going into the living room and putting on "Pitch Perfect."
****************Jasper's P.O.V.*****************
Remembering that Lora was at my house all night by herself, I jumped up and sprinted out of Sam's house. I knew she was confused but I didn't want to get her mixed up in my problem. She already had enough of her own. At this point I was really glad I went out last night to get my bike from the school.Sighing in relief once I reached the familiar blue house, I parked my motorcycle and ran up the few steps to my door before throwing it open and going straight to her room. I tried to ignore the strong smell of alcohol and vomit as it burned my nose as I twisted the door knob of Lora's door.
"Lo?" I called out as I stepped in. I heard a soft whimper come from under the pile of blankets and pillows on her bed. I picked them up and moved them aside, revealing my frightened sister with a big purple bruise on her right cheek. She had tears streaming down her face as she threw herself at me.
"D-daddy hit my Jas!" She cried, but I already knew. Hearing her say it though made me completely lose it. I peeled her off of me gently.
"Pack some of your stuff Lo, we're going to go away so dad can't hurt you again." She nodded and went to her closet to grab her overnight backpack that was often used when I dropped her off at Miss. Dee's. I stormed back out of her room and across the hall to my parents. Flinging it open, I strode over to where they were sprawled out on the bed. I didn't even give him a chance to wake up as I grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and picked him up, pounding my fist into his face.
"You bastard!" I screamed, throwing him against the wall. He was wide awake and alert by now, and I could see the fury burning in his eyes. "Don't you ever fucking touch her again!" I yelled kicking him one final time and shooting a glare at my mom. I went back to scoop Lora up then went back outside to my bike.
"Put this on Lora." I said quietly as I placed a helmet over her head. I took off my belt and sat her on the back seat before placing the belt around the back of the seat and her stomach, making sure it was loose enough to not hurt but tight enough so she wouldn't fall. I took off, only one place that was safe for us to stay at for awhile coming to mind. This would definitely need an explanation.
*********Sam's P.O.V.*************
I was about half way through my movie when the door bell rang. I slowly got off of the couch and made my way towards the door. My mouth fell open as I saw Jasper and a little girl standing outside of it. I stepped aside and let them in, but not before casting a look to Jasper. He gave me a thankful look and gently nudged the little girl. Now that I could see her clearly I realized she resembled Jasper a lot with her dark hair and dazzling green eyes. My gaze then fell to her right cheek where a dark bruise was very prominent. I gasped and felt my eyes widen.
The little girl looked up at me and hesitantly smiled, "Hi, Im Lora but you can call me Lo." She said.
"Hi Lo, I'm Sam."
"Isn't that a boy's name?" She asked confused. I chuckled.
"Yeah it is but that's just my nickname. Why don't we get you cleaned up?" I said, picking her up carefully and bringing her into the bathroom to wipe off the face that had a small amount of dried blood around the bruise.
"Can daddy get me now?" She asked frightened. This confused me but I just replied by shaking my head.
"Your safe here." I whispered. She smiled at me before yawning.
"I'm tired." She mumbled. I laughed and picked her up, carrying her past Jasper and upstairs into my room. I placed her under my blankets and tucked her in before going back down stairs to confront Jasper.
He was standing in the same spot, running his hands through his hair. I noticed his bloody knuckles and went into the kitchen to get a wet paper towel. I stood in front of him and he didn't look at me until I grabbed his hand and carefully wiped off his knuckles. I looked back up into his captivating eyes. Seeing how tortured and scared they were. His gaze held none of the innocence a teenager should hold. He just looked overwhelmed with so many bad thoughts. I just wanted to make it go away. I wrapped my arms around him tightly. He just stood there for a minute before he returned the gesture. After a few minutes I stepped back.
"What happened?" I asked quietly. He was silent for a moment before he told me something that could possibly change everything. For better or for worse.
