RECAP:

"You totally cheated! I call for a rematch!" Jason shouted at Jasper.

"We can play as many times as you want, I'll still kick your ass!" Jasper shouted back.

The four of us, being Lora, Jasper, Jason and I, were all playing a very intense game of Chutes and Ladders.

"PUT A DOLLAR IN THE SWEAR JAR!" Lora yelled, pouting at her big brother.

"A whole dollar!?" He asked incredulously to which she nodded to.

"Robbery, I tell you! Robbery!" He complained but still gave her the money.

Ha, she totally had him wrapped around her little finger.

Suddenly, Jasper's phone rang. He looked at the unknown number in confusion before hesitantly answering.

JASPER'S POV

"Hello?" I asked into the receiver.

"Jasper?" A voice I faintly recognized replied.

My eyebrows scrunched together as I tried to figure out who the voice belonged to.

"It's me.. it's Tom."

Jasper's POV

I hastily stood up from the table, causing everyone to look up in alarm as I quickly walked out of the house.

Clutching the phone tightly, I barked into the receiver, "what the hell do you want?"

There was silence on the other end and then a throat was cleared.

"Jas," he started, but I cut him off abruptly.

"Don't fucking call me that!" I yelled, clenching my fists.

I heard a sigh on the other end and I pinched the bridge of my nose, trying to regain my composure.

"Jasper, look, I'm in town. And I want to visit you and Lora."

"You have no right to see us after you left us in the hands of that monster!"

"Jasper," he began again, but I interrupted him once again.

"Screw off." and with that, I hung up. I was breathing heavily and my throat felt tight. I immediately recognized the symptoms as a panic attack. Sure enough, a few seconds later I was breathing erratically and shaking. Tears began falling from my eyes against my will.

I didn't want to see him. I didn't. He was just an asshole who abandoned his family like a coward. I kept telling myself this over and over, trying to push the thoughts of wanting to see him out of my head. There was no way I'd let him come crawling back to me. There was no way that I'd go crawling back to him, either.

"Jasper." a voice I knew all too well whispered behind me. I refused to turn around. She couldn't see me like this. A gentle hand was placed on my shoulder, slowly turning me towards her.

I heard her suck in a breath as her fingers went under my eyes to wipe away the trader tears. I slowly opened my eyes and looked down at her.

Sam didn't say anything else, she just wrapped her slender arms around me. By this point, I was shaking so bad my teeth were chattering.

"It's okay," she hesitantly whispered, "it'll be okay."

I clung onto her like she was my life line. In a way, she was. If it wasn't for her my sister and I would either be homeless or stuck in that shit hole with parents who don't deserve the title. I'd never have known love could ever exist. She shone a light on my darkened life and I could never find a way to repay her for that.

** Sam's POV **

A few minutes of silence passed. I waited until Jasper's shaking had subsided before I pulled back slightly to look into his eyes.

"Jasper," I started, catching his attention, "who was that?" I asked softly. I didn't want to upset him further, but I couldn't stop my curiosity.

"My.. brother." He spat the word out like it burned his tongue.

My eyebrows furrowed in confusion for a second before realization dawned on me. I vaguely remember him telling me about his brother that left him and Lora behind.

Was it Tyler? No.
Timothy? Definitely not.

I thought for a minute and mentally facepalmed. Thomas, his name was Thomas.

"What did he want?" I hesitantly asked. Jasper paused before opening his mouth again.

"He said he's in town. He wants to visit." He repeated almost robotically.

All emotion was gone from his eyes as he stared at me, almost daring me to ask another question. I just simply nodded and looked away from his empty gaze.

The gears in my head were turning rapidly as I tried to quickly think everything over. I felt my lips part and heard myself blurt out words that, coming from anyone else, would probably earn them a punch or two.

"You should do it."

My eyes snapped back to his very surprised ones, he wasn't used to being told what to do, and before he could fight me on it I continued,

"I know things have been rough with him but at least he's reaching out. Maybe it's way overdue but he is trying to make an effort. Lora shouldn't have to live her life without ever knowing him."

He seemed to be thinking my words over but then shook his head.

"I can't."

"Yes, you can. Just think about it, please." I pleaded.

He sighed and nodded his head, "I'll think about it, but that doesn't mean I'll go through with it."

"Alright," I muttered, "let's go back inside, okay?"

Jasper quickly rubbed the palms of his hands against his eyes, taking away the proof of him ever crying. I had never seen him anymore vulnerable than he was in that moment, desperately trying to pull himself together.

I offered a small smile of what I hoped to be reassurance and led the way back to the house.

I walked upstairs with Jasper behind me and entered my room. He closed the door behind him and sat down next to me on my bed. Reaching over, I intertwined our fingers and glanced up at him, waiting for him to say something.

"I know what you brought me up here to talk about, but can we just not?" he ran his other hand through his hair and looked at me. Before I had a chance to say anything, his lips were on mine.

"Jasper." I mumbled against his lips, but he kissed me harder and my words were lost. I pulled back slightly, causing him to groan in protest.

"No." he whispered before pulling me back to him. His arms caged me in and suddenly I was on my back and he was hovering over me. He ran his nose up my jaw and placed a kiss under my ear.

"I'm not talking about him." he said, pulling back to look me in the eyes. I opened my mouth to protest but he put his mouth over mine, silencing me once again.

"Jasper!" Jason yelled from downstairs, causing us to break apart, "Sam! Come here, someone's at the door!"

Jasper groaned but rolled off of me so I could get up. He grabbed my hand and together we walked down the stairs, or at least, attempted to. Jasper stopped abruptly and I felt his muscles tighten. I peaked over his shoulder and saw a young man standing in the doorway with Jason. He looked similar to Jasper but his hair was much lighter.

"Jas." The man said hesitantly.

"Tom."
