She was too far gone... Luke couldn't heal her, I couldn't save her.
I keep my face straight as I stare at the empty hole. My tears are all dried, I can't cry anymore. I feel empty. I feel nothing...
I watch as they gently lower her body, filling the once empty hole. The rain starts to fall over us, but I make no move to leave. I know he's beside me, wanting to comfort me, but knowing touching me could only set me off. I feel him there, but I don't look at him. The rain continues to fall as they throw dirt over her corpse. The dirt soon turns to mud, stacking up higher and higher. Hair sticks to my neck. Water rushes over me, soaking me from head to toe yet I still, don't move. I look up to the sky. It's is an angry gray, glaring down at me. It watches me and judges me. I look away.
I hold the rose to my chest, then throw it to the ground above her.
Silence... There's nothing but silence... I want, nothing but silence.
Blood... There was no blood...
Pain... The only pain was in my chest... It enveloped my heart...
Eyes land on me from all around, they then shift down as everyone around me, but him, walk away.
"Christina. We should go in." I hear him say. I stay silent, looking at the mound of mud. He sighs then turns and leaves me. But I don't care. I wanted him to go anyways. I rub my arms, the water making them slippery.
Death... Is that really what my life has bent to?
Warmth suddenly envelopes me, as a blanket is thrown over my shoulders. I don't want it, but I don't shake it off. Hair is pushed away from my face. I stay still.
"You'll freeze out here." he says gently.
"Leave me." I whisper but he doesn't.
I know he won't.
"Leave me alone." I say more stern. But he stays still, doesn't even shift.
"Damn it go away!" I shout spinning on him. He doesn't even flinch at the anger in my voice. He doesn't even flinch at my balled fists.
He sees the truth within me. He knows the truth.
He sees my pain. Knows that I'm not angry... But I won't give in.
"Go away!" I shout my chest rising and falling rapidly, the blanket sliding from my shoulders. To the muddy ground below.
"I made a promise to you Christina. Do you remember what it was?" he asks but I stay silent.
"I promised to never leave you." he says.
Something warm hits my cheek. My vision blurs. I touch my fingers to my cheek as a warm tear slides down, showing him how weak and hurt I really am. I stay silent still as he reaches forward and wipes another loose tear away.
"And I'm not breaking that promise."
