We come to a jerking stop and my eyes snap open.
"We've gotta move back to foot." he says and I nod. We get out of the car, grab our bags then step back. He grabs a thing of gasoline from the back of the car and starts pouring it.
"What are you doing?" I ask
"Burning it. We need any evidence of us being here, gone. We'll shove it down the ditch if we have to." he says and I nod. He finishes off the gasoline then throws the container into the ditch. We shove the car down the hill then he hands over the lighter. I start it up while he gets rid of the tire tracks then he backs up and moves beside me.
"Go ahead." he says and I sigh then throw the lighter in. We are thrown back from the waves, and he covers me with his body as a giant boom sounds then debris falls over us. Another boom and more debris. The screeching of metal, followed by one last boom and I groan. Suddenly everything falls silent and still. He slowly moves off of me and I cough from all the smoke. I look around watching the debris be lifted with the wind.
My ears ring from the loud booms that have probably busted my eardrums. He pulls me away and I feel like everything is in slow motion as we run into the woods. My ears continue to ring as we break through the trees and continue on.
He's saying something to me, but I can't hear it. He continues to pull me along and I breathe heavy as we finally come to a stop.
"Christina." it sounds so far away.
"Christina?" I slowly turn to face him and he presses his palm to the side of my head.
"You're bleeding." he says but once again it sounds so far away.
"Can you hear me?"
"Barely." I say quietly but it sounds so loud in my head. He pulls his hand back and I look down seeing blood. I reach my hand up to my ear and pull my blood stained fingers back.
"We need to keep moving." he says and I nod my hearing starting to slowly turn back to normal. More blood slides down my neck and floods in the collar of my shirt. He takes my hand and I follow after him.
~~
"I need to sit down." I say leaning heavy against a tree
"You ok?"
"Everything is shaking." I say "Even my vision." I mumble breathing heavy. He comes behind me and puts a hand on my back.
"Did your head hit?" he asks gently and I nod. I reach up to my ear and find the blood is all dried and is starting to itch.
"I need water." I mumble and he nods. He squats digging through the bag and I take the bottle from him. I take a slow sip then turn so I'm facing him and lean back against the tree. I shut my eyes trying to get everything to stop shaking. He moves closer to me and I open my eyes and put my head against his chest. I feel his healing start to take affect on me, and though I'm not 100%, it's good enough.
"Better?" he asks gently and I nod.
"Alright. You able to keep moving?" he asks gently and I nod.
"Ok." he says and I slowly move back rubbing my arms.
"Just a few more miles then we can rest." he says and I nod as we take off.
