The first week was numbing.
The second week was agonizing.
The third, just as bad.

Lillian found herself trapped upstairs in her room, wasting the rest of her summer away in a funk of sadness.

Everyone knew that being cooped in all day wasn't good for Lillian but she couldn't find herself to leave her room.
For the past three weeks, everybody's pleading flew threw one ear and out the other.

A few times Lilly heard the familiar voice of Benny or Ham downstairs asking her mom if she could come outside but her moms answer was always the same
"Sure she can, Let me just ask her.."
And Lilly's answer was always the same. "No thanks."

It's not that Lilly was pushing her friends away, she was 100% grateful that they were making an effort to cheer her up but everything they did reminding her of him, she was already down as it was she didn't need to see the sandlot to make her feel sad, his memory did that perfectly.

Julian even came inside his sisters room once or twice to try and cheer her up. He realized their petty argument wasn't as important as his little sisters happiness.

"Sometimes things happen for a reason, but they always get better."
Even those words seemed a bit wise to come from Julian's brain but they sunk in Lillian's head for those three depressing weeks and that's how she found herself finally working up enough strength to go outside.
She realized Yeah-yeah wouldn't want her to be sad, actually that would be the last thing he wanted. So she did, it for him.

Walking down the stairs, Lilly's mom gave her daughter an encouraging smile as she gentility twisted the front door open.
The blazing sun hit Lilly's face.
1st stop. The sandlot.

Months later.

School was even more boring, although she expected that. The boy of her dreams wasn't there to show his godly features and hug her from behind like he usually did, smiling in the crease of her neck but that didn't stop him from occupying her every thoughts, Abby and Lilly were no longer friends but she still had her boys that tried their best to make her smile at least  twice a day

The first few days people gave Lillian sympathetic looks and she felt sorta awkward, others didn't care enough to pity her which was fine with Lilly, she didn't need pity.

Last week Yeah-Yeah finally called Lillian and told her all about his first official week in his new school. It pained Lillian to hear how happy he sounded but his happiness was golden to her so she was happy too.

He made it clear that he missed her just as much as she did him and promised to write her as soon as he got the chance, also telling her to deliver a message from him to the sandlot boys.

Lillian sat on her bed, headphones playing the sweet sound of Elvis Presley, doing Overdue math work she never turned in. First month of school and she was already slacking.

A soft round of knocks interrupted Lillian's music and she wondered how the small thuds overpowered Elvis. Never the less she invited the person inside her bedroom.

In came her mother with a cheeky grin plastered onher face. Lillian took her headphones off, resting them on top of her bed, giving her mom a weird look.

Without another word Martha placed a white envelope on Lillian's dresser and left her room in a hurry.

Lillian didn't have to question what the envelope was, she knew what it was. She also didn't have to question who it was from, she knew who it was from.
He promised to write her and he did, he kept his promise.

Lilly darted off her bed to grab the envelope, getting tangled up in the covers and falling flat on her face in the process.

Much to her success she got to the paper before she ended up with a broken neck. Without much effort the envelope was open and her eyes were scanning over Yeah-yeahs all to familiar handwriting.

Dear Lillian,

At first I didn't think I could go a day without you. I missed the small dimple on your left cheek when you smiled or the way you ramble without even noticing and the way your dark brown hair always seems to glow in the sun. Everything seems unclear without you, I wish you were here.. But suddenly some days are somewhat easier for me. Of course I'll always miss you. The thought of you was what kept me positive. I hope you're doing fine too. Anyways schools great! I made friends with a couple of boys, of course they could never compare to you and the boys but their cool. Everything is more strict here which is kinda scary but nothing I can't handle. They said I'll be able to visit you guys in about 2 months! I'll be counting the days till I see you face again, I have to go now, please don't forgot to write me back.. I miss you.

Love Alan.

Lillian couldn't help but smile ear to ear, reading the letter over multiple times. She found it kinda odd that he referred to himself as Alan instead of Yeah-yeah but she shook it off.

Finishing her math homework was the last thing on her mind now. She grabbed a piece of paper from her binder and started writing him back.

Dear Yeah-yeah...
